Good morning, good afternoon, good evening or whatever applies. My name is Lonnie Phillips and I will be running for U.S. Congress in 2008 as an Independent from the 7th Congressional District of Illinois.
Let me retract the latter portion of that statement.
I wouldn't exactly say I'm running, it's more of a slow walk. You see, I don't have a war-chest or a trust fund, only a mediocre nine to five. So, I'm thinking maybe I'll try things the old fashioned way. Say, something like a write-in? I know that in today's world that seems like an obsolete method of political warfare, but what makes a multiple choice scantron containing the same breed of corporate greed every election far superior than conventional democracy? I think the answer is good ol' American apathy. Sedentary inactivism.Spoon fed a steady diet of b.s. media, tabloid scandals and reality shows, just so we have something to look forward to at the end of the day. Complacency.I mean sure, we sit around and we bitch, but do we actually do anything about it? Not really. Let's go to Starbuck's.
Seriously, that's fast becoming the American way.Let's step up and do something about it. Put somebody in there that isn't sponsored by more corporations than NASCAR. Your voting for your own interests, not theirs.
All we have to do is get our foot in the door and set an example. Little by little, one by one- we can change the face of things to come.
