'PASS ME THE BOTTLE - MAKE IT SOMETHING STRONG..'

About Me

It may come as a bit of a kick-to-the-gut to hear the foot-stomping strains of country, folk & bluegrass coming through a rock band here in London, England.
But heartache, loss and regret have always been a cornerstone of great music and the East End has always had more than its fair share. In a small corner of the city better known for thieves, hardluck and the occasional serial murder, anything as authentic and heartfelt as Peppercornrent comes as a bit of an unexpected surprise.
With an arsenal of banjos, guitars, mandolin, fiddle, bass, drums and thundering bodhran, their sound is a wholesome brew of Thames mud, rusty nails and a pint of London gin. It’s sincere, blunt and straight to the vein.
The songs sound as though they may have be sung for years and are sturdy enough to become heirlooms. They travel over some dark areas of twisted relationships, love and death, jealously and betrayal, violence and remorse, and of course gin, cigarettes and regret.
Peppercornrent effortlessly wield such wildly changing influences from rock, folk, alt.country, bluegrass to punk. The music and energy weaves a ramshackle and accessible sound for true believers and sceptics alike. Something happens when you hear these songs. Something in the music will find you, no matter where you've been hiding.
Theres a wide old blend of personalities which combine to forge an exciting band that can fill a stage - and often most of the venue as well. Changes in pace, direction and energy are thick, fast and not necessarily anticipated. Equally as happy sitting in the beer garden surrounded by glasses, playing truly acoustically, as they are filling some of the larger venues and festival stages Peppercornrent are a bit of a force to be reckoned with.

Band Members: We're on with recording the next slug of songs at the moment with an anticipated release date for early summer

Over the last few years the line up of Peppercornrent has been slightly dynamic.

Chris plays a bit of guitar, writes a few songs and can be induced into singing on occasions - he also mishandles and abuses the mandolin sometimes.

Mark covers the bass, the pout and the chewing gum.

Barry is responsible for the melody bit, mostly on the Viola (like a violin on steroids) - he also can be persuaded to play piano and accordion as well as guitar & almost anything else placed in front of him.

We've got Jerry back on board with the banjo & mouthie when he isn't hurtling around in the cab.

Michael plays banjo, mandolin & has a strange line in odd, unusual and downright weird instruments.

After a thirteen year absence Graham has come back into the fold and holds it all together on the drums.

Maria sings & plays a little guitar.

And of course the inimitable Senor Paul Hunter on bodhran.

On top of all that we have been known to borrow a bit of help from an ever widening circle of friends - such as Andy Green on the violin, and various other instruments, the legendary Steve Honest on pedal steel, and the renowned Peter Layton on guitar.

Influences: It's a bit obvious to say Cigarettes and Gin and Dead Dogs isn't it ?

How about beautiful women, alcohol, unfaithful women, faithful women, death, murder, friendships, more alcohol, messy situations, drugs, disappointment, heartache, love & regrets.

And sometimes ABBA - but not often.
Sounds Like: A good idea....

Which is always worrying..

We thought we'd have a crack at an online equivalent of Battle Of the Bands !!
Have a wee gander at our SELLOUTOURBAND page
If we get anywhere with it Chris has got some VERY SPECIAL songs to record.
