You always wanted me to write you a love song....

About Me

This is my bit - not a lot of people know I'm here. If you know me please add me - if you don't well you probably should...
Or shouldn't.
I've been writing songs for a good while now - maybe too long - some I'm told are quite good, some scare me, some scare small children, some scare small adults. I pen a few songs for Peppercornrent - take a look @ the band bit on www.myspace.com/peppercornrent and of course www.peppercornrent.com - I also write songs for a number of other artists & tend to take a bit of a twisted vantage point lyrically - but it works for me.
Whilst Peppercornrent is dangerously good fun & takes up a stack of time & energy, recently I've realised that I have some songs a little too personal to be Pepperised - whch is why I've begun to put together the non-PCR album 'Nosebleed Songs', for things that I've written from myself, rather than for somebody else to perform.
I've a nasty habit of old cars, which I'm not managing to give up at the moment. I'm also accidentally a bit of a producer and run what is probably Londons finest dedicated acoustic recording studio Gin & Guinness are close to my heart and I have an uncanny ability to go through at least one lighter a gig, although this smoking ban has slowed that slightly.
Cigarettes, Gin & Dead Dogs..
The Peppercornrent debut album is available now - in CD format for a tenner exactly - with payments handled through PayPal

..
Then again of course we've also got Cigarettes, Gin and Dead Dogs... up on iTunes too !

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: peppercornrent.com
Band Members: I play a few different things myself. Main toy is the guitar although I do rattle around a little on the mandolin, accordion and melodeon sometimes. The line up of Peppercornrent has been a bit dynamic over the last couple of years. But seems to still be a bit of a big acoustic band (with full instructions), still playing all original songs with some interesting instruments.Away from Peppercornrent I have been known to sing occasionally and it isn't unheard of for the fine bodhran player Mr Paul of Hunter to accompany me on some fine open mic evenings around Preston and London.I'm a lucky man to have some fine musicians just kicking around happy to add the flesh onto my songs.
Influences: Thick, fast and often unexpected - I get influences for the music & lyrics from many directions. I've recently been working with a young lady who has introduced me to Rob Lamothe and a host of excellent songwriters - then from my own past come The Alarm, Bap Kennedy is a fine songwriter - I miss the Energy Orchard dreadfully, Boo Hewardine, The Barenaked Ladies, The Be Good Tanyas, Bill Hicks, Bill Bailey, the inimitable Broken Family Band, Blind Melon, Buena Vista Social Club, few songwriters can take you on a journey like Springsteen can, Ryan Adams & Caitlin Cary & Whiskeytown and all that, Capercaille, Counting Crowes, The Cowboy Junkies, Chris Thile & Nickelcreek, Crowded House, Croft No 5, Damien Rice has done very well for himself, Django Reinhart, Eddi Reader in almost everything she has touched, Elvis Costello, Gram Parsons and Emmylou, Fleetwood MAc, The Gin Blossoms, Great Big Sea, Ed Hamell (Hamell on Trial), Hank Williams (Sr), Love Hayseed Dixie, James Taylor, John Martyn, the Jayhawks, Led Zepplin, Maria McKee & all the Lone Justice thing, Micheal McGoldrick, Neil Young and Norah Jones, I do miss Peter Cook, The Stones, Shooglenifty and the Peatbog Faeries, Annie Proulx, AJ Wainwright and Arthur Ransome, Paddy Casey - the Pogues, the Real Tuesday Weld, Richmond Fontaine, The Eagles, Robert Johnson, Steppenwolf, Stanley Unwin, SRV, The Waterboys. The list could go on until next Xmas - if you find a common thread let me know.
