"new album out soon

About Me

" honest, most magickal and real, a treasure indeed "
Root Deity Poems
"I never really set out to write songs - I've always been a bit of a daydreamer though (vis-a-vis a school report, age 8 "Kim would perhaps gain more from her lessons if she spent less time staring out of the window"!) I probably wasn't even paying the remotest attention to the scene outside the window or the passing traffic. I have always had a fascination for the fairytale, the romantic, the undiscovered. I find it almost impossible to stick to the path when out walking in the woods - although I have yet to bump into Little Red Riding Hood! I may have met the Big Bad Wolf but it's hard to tell - as you know, he is a master of disguises. I had a poem published at the age of 9 and even then I was tiptoeing my way into special magical places and finding the sight of bluebells in a lush English woodland supremely inspirational..... "
"I am very impressed. Beautiful voice and really nice arrangements. I have strong connections with the folk world myself and this is one of the best things I have heard recently."
Andy Hemsley, Journalist
The album URBAN DRYAD was recorded over the space of a year or so in 2004/2005. Originally planned as a demo, it soon became apparent this was to be a somewhat grander project and new songs were added rather organically to produce an album that is sometimes a little traditional, sometimes more contemporary but in the main, very 'English'. In a world of cross-genre, Americanised, industry-led uber-hype, there are wonderful new bands exploring their cultural heritage with a passion and giving it a fresh and youthful slant. Perhaps albums like 'Urban Dryad' (and the forthcoming 'Songs from the Uglee Meadow') can raise an ancient voice to declare that England is still, in more ways than we are probably aware of, that green and pleasant land of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
SONGS FROM THE UGLEE MEADOW is due for release in Summer 2008.

Band Members: Kim Thompsett - guitar, vocals, flute, recorder
Dave Kent - guitar, keyboards
Tasha - percussion
Sarah - violin
Philip Martin - hurdy gurdy
A cello would be nice !!
Influences: The wind rattling the windows, the way the light of the setting sun hits the trees just before twilight, bonfires and hearthfires, misty meadows, running streams, curled up ferns, untouched places, magical places, worlds within worlds

Sounds Like: A Bacchanalian Maenad having a Kit Kat!

..... Or in the words of Fleas from Root Deity Poems

'She sings of birds and they of her'

She sits beneath the tree to sing
To bring the very Nature in
To my hearts sorrow saddened plight
Does come a warmth a pure delight
To soothe the frown of turmoil mind
And in those moments all is kind
With pure her voice and truth her smile
Sweet honesty of Nature wild.

Reproduced with thanks xx
