NEW CD: BALANÇO
Warm grooving pulses from Mozambique coloured with influences from Brazil, New York and the best from Afro Jazz...
Deodato Siquir, drummer, singer, composer and band leader from Maputo, Mozambique,
is presenting his debut album BALANÇO.
Siquir was born in a musicians family, and started his musical carrier at the age of 13 on
a self made drum kit, and was performing as professional drummer in several orchestras from the age of 15, freelancing, performing with local & international musicians visiting Mozambique.
Deodato relocated to Sweden in 2001, taking advantage of the large network of collaborators he'd established over the years. He quickly became one of the jazz and world music scene's most in-demand sidemen. His debut as a bandleader was released in 2007, entitled Balanço. Featuring Siquir's percussive, vocal, and compositional talents, Balanço made a splash in the international world music/jazz arena. The record climbed charts to take a place in World Music Europe's Top Ten. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, All Music Guide
BALANÇO is recorded in Copenhagen - Denmark 2006-2007, with participation of great musicians from around the world like: Linley Marthe, Phong Le, Sal Dibba, Nacimi Brahimi, Luis Varona, Romain Coutama, Ed Epstein, Ayi solomon, Simon Spang, José Antonio, Rune Thorsteinsson & Deborah Herbert.
The songs on the album are Siquir's compositions and arrangements written in the period between 2001 and 2006. The music has warm, grooving pulses from Mozambique such as Marrabenta, Muthimba, and Muganda, coloured with influences from Brazil, New York and Afro Jazz, resulting in a sophisticated vibrant sound. Add soft poetic singing in a mix of Portuguese, English and Ronga and lyrics on universal themes.
New sound for the present and for the future.
Enjoy!
