Sascha Ley

Vocalist and actress

About Me

Sascha's vocal style can be described as a fluent movement between jazz, free improvisation and imaginary folklore which sometimes flirts with chanson and contemporary music.
In January 2007 she has launched her first album featuring entirely her own compositions.
Travelling Light, performed as a sextet, is a collection of modern jazz songs. In her band she is backed by some of Luxembourg's finest musicians and great talents from Germany.
Sascha also works extensively as an actress and has received the "efp European Shooting Star" award for Luxembourg at the Berlin Film Festival in 2005.
In 2008 she first introduces her new trio project, KALIMA, with Anne Kaftan (ss, bcl) and pianist Laia Genc.

Sounds Like: "Modern vocal jazz … an interdisciplinary very well trained voice, both in improvisation as well as in ethnic music forms and styles, fine phrasings and loads of creative finesse - everything based on atmospheric original compositions.
And since the accompanying quintet performs in an excellent way as well, the result is absolutely recommendable.(Volker Doberstein, Jazzpodium 2007)

A subtle kind of music, somewhat melancholic, on the verge of disillusion, with a charm served by a misty, smoky voice. The music seems to grow out of the lyrics, and vice-versa. (Philippe Baron, RTBF musiq3, 2007)

… musicians of great ability and virtuosity, the concert came across as a sincere expression of the soul where technique enhanced the emotion inherent in the music rather than being an end in itself … fabulous stage presence; great vibe … very moving performance! (Vijay, Rave Magazine India 2008)

KALIMA: Finest chamber jazz ...(Generalanzeiger Bonn, 07.04.2008)
