Welcome to The Sun Messengers MySpace Music Page

About Me

The Sun Messengers are an eight-piece, horn-driven R&B show-band based in Detroit, Michigan USA. This top-notch band plays everything from Motown classics to old school Funk to Big-Band, Classic Rock and Jazz standards. The Sun Messengers have been one of the most popular groups in the Detroit area since forming in 1980. In addition to performing as a headliner, the band has backed up such artists as The Drifters, Johnny Adams, Earl King, James "Thunderbird" Davis, Martha Reeves, Sir Mack Rice, Leon Thomas and The Original Falcons Reunion Featuring Eddie Floyd @ The Chicago Blues & Jazz Festival. In 1995 The Sun Messengers had the privilege to be the featured band for the opening Theme song video for The Detroit Tigers Baseball Television Broadcasts. Plus played for The Detroit Tigers Opening day Celebrations for close to 10 yrs. The band consists of a four-piece horn section, Trumpet, Sax, Trombone & Baritone Sax, Full Rhythm Section, Drums, Bass, Keyboards and Guitar. Six of the eight members handle the vocal arrangements. The Sun Messengers are heavily influenced by the classic horn-driven bands of the 60s, 70s, and 80s (Tower of Power, James Brown, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Ohio Players, etc..). The Sun Messengers have been the Houseband for the Detroit Pistons, performing during Piston's home games at the Palace of Auburn Hills since 1996. THE SUN MESSENGERS in 1998 had the pleasure of being among four bands to record a television tribute to The Temptations in the legendary Hitsville, USA - Studio A in the world famous Motown Museum, where many of the great Motown hits were recorded. In fact it was the first time that the room had been recorded in since 1972 When Marvin Gaye recorded "What's Going On". The Gordy's opened the studio for this one time event to pay tribute to they're greatest recording group "THE TEMPTATIONS" & would be the last time to do so. We were blessed to have been part of it.
