About Me

American Music Award winner, and Grammy nominee with the group Wild Cherry, Marty Montgomery is no stranger to the music business or the world with 3 world tours and numerous concert engagements around the United States. Born in New Orleans and reared by two musical parents Saxman James Montgomery and Violinist and hairstylist Mattie Montgomery, Marty began playing drums at the age of 4 because he couldn't reach the lower keys of the Saxophone. Upon arriving in Detroit Marty studied saxophone in the Detroit Public Schools then furthered his musical studies at Oakland University. Television Appearances Include:VH1, BET Jazz, Don Kirchners Rock Concert, Dinah, Merv, SNL, Midnight Special, Magic Johnson Hour, Jenny Jones, Soul Train. 4 Tom Joyner Morning Sky Shows, 1977 American Music Awards 1977 Grammy Awards Show, WDIV Fireworks and many more. He has performed and recorded with many artist such as. Wild Cherry, Supremes, Temptations, Little Richard, Millie Jackson, Little Eva, Roy Ayers, Labelle, Marlena Shaw, DeDe Sharp, Tiny Tim, Carolyn Franklin, Aretha Franklin, Chilites, The Dramatics, Stylistics, KEM, Sly Stone, George Benson, and Marvin Gaye. Locally Marty has performed with Bugs Beddow Band, Moose and Da Sharks, The Exceptions, Tickweasel, The Motor City Brass Band, WDIV Old Dogs. Martys own bands include Martini, Thikk and Doubletake. Music Coordinator and Conductor for stage plays: Rhythn Nation and The Chosen. Solo CD Fine In Time.
