The World Is My Playground

About Me

I'm a drama teacher by profession. I teach acting at the secondary level, but have been acting all my life. Watching others develop into trained actors is a wonderful thing. Real acting shouldn't look like acting. Acting is believing and being. It is living in the moment. However, I have to keep myself from getting caught up in the moment. Some moments shouldn't last a long time. Author of several books of poetry. I'm a performance poet and have performed all over the country. I have 3 grown children. I think I'm too old to be writing on MySpace . . . but a lot of my favorite people are on it, including my son and one of my daughters. I'm also a columnist. Have a new book coming out in the spring. One of my signature poems is PRIME TIME:“Prime Time” It should bother you that I have the benefit of these “forty somethin’” years. I’ve overcome a lot and have tackled your unseen fears. I’m glad God’s allowed me to grow up this special way, ‘cause knowing what really counts in life has helped me savor each day.At the age of thirty, ignorance made me image I was grown. But you can’t fathom how many seeds I hadn’t sewn.I’m a better lover than I was in those days of old. Being in my Prime has shown me that my body’s just as “GOOD AS GOLD.” Intellectually, I think deeper, and see far beyond the trees. I have the power, though I don’t use it, to drop nations down to their knees.I was never this very wise, not even a single decade ago; because I had to live and go through “changes,” so now I can say, “I know.”So, all young people should be in awe of the things runnin’ through my mind. ‘Cause “everybody ain’t able,” and I’ve gotten better with time. © 1991 . . .And that's the truth - RUTH! My Interests

Too many to enumerate upon here.

I'd like to meet:

Danny Glover because I'd like us to do a poetry program together, or Someone who knows as much about Motown as I do OR a hero.

Music:

All kinds. Right now I'm listening to a lot of Dinah Washington. It's like I just discovered her. I didn't know how great she was. Of course, I can never get enough of the old Motown songs and singers. They were talented without all of the extras of the recording studios of today. The Temptations were and still are my favorites. Of course I wanted to be a Supreme. . . and have Smokey bestow a Miracle . . . and see Marvin be stubborn and so on, and so on. Luckily I did get to see them live and in person (smile) at the Fox Theatre and other places in my youth.

Movies:

I discovered some good writing in the last Superman film believe it or not. High Noon, THIS LAND IS MINE, The Illusionist, Dreamgirls (The Broadway Version of the Play) A Raisin In The Sun, Casablanca, All About Eve, The Heat of the Night, This Land is Mine, The Fountainhead, Danny Glover's performance as Mister in The Color Purple sold me, Carmen Jones and I love Superheroes!! Jack Nicholson's Joker in Batman Samuel E. in Pulp Fiction, Danny G. in The Color Purple

Television:

L and O and Columbo

Books:

His Eye Is On The Sparrow, Another Country, The Godfather, and Respect For Acting Mood Swings and Magic Carpet Rides Moods For You Tender Ravings
