NINE SIGNALS

"Art of course reflects life and this of course is my point; that Nine Signals oozes the deep, soulful vibe born out of so many finger numbing winter mornings, with dark overhead skies and nothing but the thought of your emotions and a better life. So maybe great musicians are cultivated in cold urban environments prone to dark overhead skies."
"REDWOOD"

So what's in a name?
Just as the tree rises up and symbolises a lasting sense of radiant life, so the music of Redwood edges ever upward, rising in the New Zealand music scene. All great trees have roots that run deep and such is mirrored in songs like "into the night", that ever subtle in their grasp, hold you and carry you upward on the journey.
The truth is that while we love to party we also need the opportunity to breathe, lay back a little. Plough your fingers through the hair of a loved one before you kiss them. That's what songs like these are for. Loving, caring, warm embraces as you settle just before bed.
There is a beautiful time and an unhurried place to bring your loved ones with you into the night with Redwood.

MUSIC REVIEWS
Reviews by Joshua Thomas
www.myspace.com/joshuathomaswriter
- Any kiwi musician living anywhere in the world who considers themselves "kiwi" and who either currently or previously held NZ citizenship may have their music reviewed.
- Reviews are aimed to encourage the Songwriter to improve by accentuating the positive (strengths) and propogate audience following and support.
- Many fantastic musicians recieve reviews biased based on genre. That won't happen here. All genres are open. It's the integrity of the song or instrumental that is commented on here. The writer is well aware that one man's meat is another man's poison. It's all about fit with context.

THE SONG WRITERS KUNG FU

If you wanna win a fight you need to learn the best moves possible.

In gaming language these are called "cheats" or "shortcuts" but I'll just call it good kung fu. Here are some of the best musical KUNG FU moves around.

MAKE A CD

BULK

CLICK HERE to visit Discmakers for rates as low as US$0.74 cents per CD (if you know someone in NZ cheaper or equiavalent let me know) These guys are good for BULK ORDERS.

MAKE TO ORDER

Amba from TUNE TANK put me onto this next crowd and you can buy for as low as $1.60 per cd and from 1 cd upwards with $3 for shipping. This is better for someone who wants to supply to demand. CLICK HERE to visit KUNAKI. Check out their software which comes free with the service. I love it.

WHAT ARE YOU MESSING AROUND FOR? SELL YOUR MP3 TUNES BY MOBILE TEXT - Get "Jiggy" with it. CLICK HERE and look to the top right of the site for "ARTIST SERVICES". Jiggy is owned by Dave Gibbons who manages RADIO ACTIVE. So you'll be supporting a KIWI company that is brilliant at supporting KIWI music.

RADIO ACTIVE

CLICK HERE to check them out. Start the revolution. Listen to kiwi music. You know you want to do it.

After a brief foray into NZ radio working as a general manager for Classic Hits and Newstalk ZB in Wairarapa I can assure you that the best radio stations are the ones that keep it kiwi and invest in local industry. While I applaud both TRN and RW networks for keeping it kiwi, they are big enough to promote themselves. So here's to the guys that allow emerging talent to break through. I don't like the kiwi hit disc mechanism due to the simple commercial fact that three people (2 from commercial radio and 1 representing us) basically decide what goes on radio. I'd like to see a group of people representing us with one representing the interest of each genre. I totally get the commercial need and demographics, but I think as an industry we should fight even harder to get more kiwi music on radio. We're all biased. The system needs to be more democratic.

I have already raved about TXT TUNES more than any sane human being should. You know what to do.

TEMPLE

Check out the Temple NZ Music Industry Info Bulletin Karen Q Temple has some of the best musical kung fu moves in the NZ music industry and is champion for the aspiring musician and songwriter.

TUNE TANK

Check out Tune Tank This is a collective of amazing angelic beings who get results for artists time and time again.

MUSIC SUBMIT

Want to promote yourself? Music Submit have got me radio play and distribution offers world wide without the aid of management, a record label or any of the usual industry mechanisms. I paid thousands of dollars in wasted fees with no results before I found this organisation and got results. Save yourself from wasting your hard earned money and definately use these guys.

SONIC BIDS

Sonic Bids is the main highway of musical cyberspace. If you want to get to most organisations you need to be on this highway. It's like the state highway one of NZ music and leads to every major opportunity and most minor ones.
