About Me

If you blend together Elliot Smith’s lyrical style and Nick Drake’s melodic arrangements, you get an idea of the Jonny Corker sound. His music has been described as low-fi, vulnerable, Nick Drake-esk, and is melodic, alternative folk. His music is inspired by heartbreak, joy, conflict and contentment, and Jonny plays with a sensitivity and sincerity that is unique and refreshing.Jonny Corker has been in the New Zealand music industry for ten years. After playing with the highly successful pop/rock band Rubicon, Jonny joined Auckland band Duchess, who were very lovely girls, and they had a great time gigging around Auckland, released a self-titled EP, made 2 really neat music videos and toured LA and London. Jonny also played in perhaps the classiest covers band ever to hit Match Bar with brothers Gareth (Goodshirt) and Matt (The Feelers) Thomas, and worked as a session musician on various projects.Jonny usually performs with his partner Julie Thompson, who helps out with backing vocals and plays the cello. They are based at Bethells Beach on the west coast of Auckland, New Zealand but are currently travelling and touring the UK.Jonny's debut album was recorded at Bethells Beach and in Mt Eden, and Jonny was helped out by a range of musicians, including Lucid 3's Victoria Girling-Butcher and Marcus Lawson, Natasha Green, Gene Bennett and Neil Watson. The album is released through Blue Moon Records, and you can purchase it at Real Groovy, The CD & DVD Store, amplifier.co.nz and cdbaby.com MySpace Banners!
