About Me

Cassette play a blend of country/folk/soft/hard/moderate/spritural mantra ROCK! Generally though, it's just a laid back accoustic sorta groove that is the glue that holds the Cassette sound. Debut Album "Cut for Summer" was recently released in New Zealand ( july 6th, 2006 ) and it's a long awaited follow up to the e.p entitled "Emo" in New Zealand ( 2001 ) and "Nothing to do" in Australia ( 2003 ). The rest of '06/beginning of '07 Cassette will be all over the show touring New Zealand to promote the album as well as releasing "Cut for Summer" in australia and touring there as well. As well as recording their next album for mid-late 2007 release. Here's a name drop list of bands we have played shows with and dig.... Sonic Youth, Black Rebel Motorcyle Club, The Phoenix Foundation, Voom. Dan Kelly and the Alpha males, the Tall Dwarves, H.D.U, Over the Atlantic, Lawrence Arabia. As a live band Cassette like to have a bit of a laugh and play music, and sometimes we like to go right out there. But mainly we play our songs 'cause that's what we're all about! Come and check us out if you can, that would be cool.

Sounds Like: Recent reviews for Cassette’s ‘Cut for Summer’ Album.…Other local bands have strayed onto the turf that, for a brief time, they had to themselves. A broad wasteland bordering on country, grunge and indie pop… ‘Cut for Summer‘ remains the most convincing, stylistically assured album by a local rock band I’ve heard all year. Nick Bollinger. NZ Listener.Sleepy, soulful, swimming through treacle country grunge ballads. The guitars… all ragged and drunken as if they have to hold onto each other to stand up. Truly gorgeous and a worthy successor to 2001's brilliant ‘Emo‘ e.p. **** (4 stars) Grant Smithies, Sunday star times. The threesome have a great sense of feel and Tom Watson certainly knows how to write a hook, which means that each track has something to offer. The end result has all the charm and melancholy you’d find in a summers day. NZ Musician magazine.Ladies beware, on tracks such as ‘Cannot tell‘ and ‘Everytime‘, listen too carefully and and you just might float off to la-la land with THAT voice and come back to find your every day romances woefully lacking… you have been warned! Groove guide.‘Cut for summer‘ takes over where the ‘Emo‘ e.p left off and carries off down the gavel road. This album is certainly worth the wait **** ( 4 stars ) Rip it Up Magazine. And from the archive… The most effortlessly beautiful guitar music I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in ages… ‘ Single of the week ‘ Inpress magazine, Melbourne
