Sounds Like: Recent reviews for Cassette’s ‘Cut for Summer’ Album.…Other local bands have strayed onto the turf that, for a brief time, they had to themselves. A broad wasteland bordering on country, grunge and indie pop… ‘Cut for Summer‘ remains the most convincing, stylistically assured album by a local rock band I’ve heard all year.
Nick Bollinger. NZ Listener.Sleepy, soulful, swimming through treacle country grunge ballads. The guitars… all ragged and drunken as if they have to hold onto each other to stand up. Truly gorgeous and a worthy successor to 2001's brilliant ‘Emo‘ e.p. **** (4 stars)
Grant Smithies, Sunday star times. The threesome have a great sense of feel and Tom Watson certainly knows how to write a hook, which means that each track has something to offer. The end result has all the charm and melancholy you’d find in a summers day.
NZ Musician magazine.Ladies beware, on tracks such as ‘Cannot tell‘ and ‘Everytime‘, listen too carefully and and you just might float off to la-la land with THAT voice and come back to find your every day romances woefully lacking… you have been warned!
Groove guide.‘Cut for summer‘ takes over where the ‘Emo‘ e.p left off and carries off down the gavel road. This album is certainly worth the wait **** ( 4 stars )
Rip it Up Magazine. And from the archive…
