A brief history... 1982- Matt and Nathan plant baby pine trees with their standard 2 teacher. 1990- Sees glam rock wheezing it's last breathe. Howick's Fencible Lounge is filled with the haze of cigarette smoke;booze soaked teenagers and 20 somethings (the likes of which would later contribute to bands such as THE DEAD FLOWERS, THE DEFENDANTS, THE SORECOCKS, PHOTONIC, THE LARRY NORMANS, MANFRED MANSLAUGHTER and BAITERCELL) raising their fists in a last farewell. Nathan screeches out the the final notes of FASTER PUSSYCAT'S "Bathroom Wall" as the show is closed down by an army of police...In the following years Nathan went on to co-form the 3 piece DROWNED which burned a small whole in the underbelly of the Auckland rock scene before the bands untimely demise. 1994- Matt and RAW MEAT FOR THE BALCONY stormed the Auckland music scene. Combining thrashing guitar riffs with sample laden beats they took the Auckland metal scene in a new direction. When RMFTB split, band member Chris Chetland went on to form BAITERCELL as the Auckland music scene reinvented itself and the dance music scene took hold...1999- Matt formed the 3 piece RUBBER TARZAN, and over the next 3 years performed many classic power pop shows and found solid support from student radio. 2003- The pine trees in the eastern suburbs were now strong & tall (or chopped down) and Nathan and Matt came to the realisation that they had never collaborated over the past 21 years, and so over a few cheeky merlot's The Mayfairs was formed...The band has existed in various incarnations since 2003, with lineup changes influencing the bands sound along the way. The introduction of James Pollock on drums was to see the band go into the studio. In July 2007 Clint Bell Joined the Mayfairs on drums. Clint brings an added songwriting element to the band coming from a singer..songwriter background.
