CHUGANAUT - OUTSTANDING LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

About Me

CHUGANAUT’s music is loosely based around ‘Rock’, ‘Alternative’ & ‘Twisted MetaL’ styles, with Mellow & Heavy Extremes!

CHUGANAUT has a little bit of everything: an expressive flurry of chaotic rhythms, quirky hooks and quick changes that are the heart of CHUGANAUT. Combine this with a combustible mix of passionate spontaneity and you have the soul of CHUGANAUT.

Formed 2002, CHUGANAUT is Waikato based and combines a mixture of ‘Different people with similar tastes’ who have combined their skills and found the secret ingredient that has created the unique sound of CHUGANAUT. An highly energetic band delivering powerful performances, CHUGANAUT provide everything with good intentions in creative music that inspires people to have fun when they come to a show.

CHUGANAUT has received regular airtime on nationwide radio, has appeared live on C4TV and national TV and has had numerous articles written in magazines and newspapers (see some press articles on www.chuganaut.com).

CHUGANAUT won the Woodstock Blue Battle of the Bands competition in 2003, taking out first place for Most Outstanding Guitarist, Drummer and People’s Choice Award and also won the Bay of Plenty Regional Finals of the Battle of the Bands.

In 2004 CHUGANAUT released two singles, produced its first music video and released a single (Brightside) on the Axe Attack Metal CD Compilation Vol 1. CHUGANAUT also became the Worldwide Winners of the first ever World Battle of the Bands competition, having won the New Zealand National Finals and the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Regional Finals in the same year.

Opening the 2005 Big Day Out, a one-day musical extravaganza in Auckland, New Zealand to a crowd of thousands brought tremendous support from both old and new fans and playing major towns of New Zealand with the Axe Attack Vol 1 Nationwide Tour has shown that CHUGANAUT’s music and visually intense stage presence has a fast growing popularity.

Touring nine venues of the north island CHUGANAUT promoted its 6-track EP entitled 'Wolf', which is complemented with a video of the same name, directed by Greg Page of Fish n Clips. As a small step toward an international career CHUGANAUT played live in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, Australia in December 2005.

As host band on 6th June 2006 CHUGANAUT was joined by 9 NZ and 5 overseas bands at “Supertop” Ericsson Stadium for the first ever NZ Metal Day Out and played 5 venues in the north island with Flatline (USA) and Frankenbok (Australia) on the ‘666’ Tour.

For several months during 2006 CHUGANAUT were back in the studio with the Datsun’s soundman, Scott Newth, recording their debut album. As a prelude they released a single (Part of This) on the 11th of November 2006, followed by a 9-venue nationwide tour.

The Unsigned TV Show in Cleveland, Ohio played CHUGANAUT’s ‘Wolf’ video on Episode 3 of the show with several radio stations in the USA playing tracks from the ‘Wolf’ EP. The ‘Wolf’ video was also a finalist in the ‘Handle the Jandle’ competition.

With their energetic stage presence, willingness to take that extra bit of effort to put on a good show and taking time to talk with their audience, these four fun loving and dedicated musicians are primed and ready for the next level of their musical career with a view to progressing internationally.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: chuganaut.com
Band Members: 'SolidSTU' (Singer/guitarist)

STU was influenced by Guns n’ Roses and Metallica and later System of a Down, Korn and SlipKnot and having bought his first guitar at the age of 14, began his music career as guitarist with covers band The Y-FronTs. He stepped forward, found his voice and started singing lead. Stu’s passion for music shines in his song-writing abilities with lyrics that promote good morals, common sense and positivity, what most of us know, but don’t put into practice. Finding other musos as dedicated as he paid off when he and Lil were joined first by Nail and then Munro. Stu’s strong and confident front stage presence is a major part of the band’s true professionalism.

LIL (Drummer)

LIL heard Guns ‘n Roses for the first time at the age of 9, which inspired her to chose drums. At 14 after getting her first drumkit and joining a band straight away, she developed her skills enough to co-form and play with the band The Y-FronTs, playing in pubs at the age of 16. System of a Down, Faith No More, Iron Maiden and Megadeth are just a few who have personally inspired Lil through the years and helped evolve her pre-show excitement into a gutsy outpouring of diverse enthusiasm. As a co-founder of Chuganaut, Lil’s wish is to be well known in the music world making a living doing what she loves most.

NAIL (guitarist/bvs)

NAIL dreamed of being a rock star from birth! After a successful sporting career his focus concentrated on fulfilling his lifetime dream of playing guitar. This is where ‘the Nail’ was born. He describes his style sound as a mixture of gut-wrenching fury with attitude. Having been heavily inspired by early Metallica, Black Sabbath and AC/DC, Nail has managed to combine all those fat, raunchy guitar tones into the 21st century aided by the sounds of System of a Down and Black Label Society. Playing in bands The Sunshine Supermen and Ms Kitty, Nail keeps his rig simple with Gibson guitars, Marshall amps and plenty of volume. His raw, fat musical talent glows in his outgoing stage performance.

MUNRO (Bass/bvs)

MUNRO found an interest in guitars probably in childhood playing rock bands with brooms and tennis rackets. He picked up a bass in form 3 at High School and totally immersed himself, fulfilling his love of guitar and drums, a kind of blending of the two. The first band he joined was V.C and he has since played with bands including Mexican Red, Bitumus, The Fabulous Farrelly Brothers, Ward 19, World War Four, Wittch, Any Excuse and Johnny Fist. Inspired by many bands who have changed people’s perception about music, such as Chili Peppers, Metallica and Jethro Tull, Munro found his calling when he joined Chuganaut and completed its unique sound with his powerful bass playing.
