The Departed is a solo project by former Frankenbok singer/guitarist Adam B. Metal.
Adam and Frankenbok parted ways early 2007 after completing together an 18 month tour of duty, self producing the killer new album "Murder of Songs" which is out now. This was the first time that Adam had written an album from scratch with the Bok guys. "Murder of Songs" showcases Adam's songwriting abilities with songs such as "What is Real", "Failure to Learn", "As it comes Down" and "Sludge (I will make/take these horizons)" as well as his knack for production & sound engineering, working together with Frankenbok's guitarist Aaron "Turbo" Butler and the master Reggie Bowman to record "Murder...".
It also shows a much more developed & mature singing style with more dynamics, a broader range and a truer display of emotion than the previous album "Blood Oath", not just in performance but also in lyrics singing about everything from autobiographical life experience to world events to movies, some of which he co wrote with Frankenbok bassist Tim "Cobra" Miedeke.
After the split from Frankenbok, Adam decided it was time to start the project he had always wanted to do but never had the time or confidence to do so. A project written and performed completely by himself. Although a big step, This seemed to be the obvious next step for Adam, having been raised on a healthy doses of Devin Townsend, Trent Reznor and Dave Grohl. These were the musicians that Adam aspired to be like. Musicians that (seemed to) be completely in charge of their music. Not that there was any sort of restrictions in the past, but this way he would have real freedom, and noone to blame but himself. Whichever way it went.
Being in the early stages of conception, its hard to gauge what The Departed will sound like. From the early demos there are flashes of the above influences, but only tiny flashes at best. Only time will tell where it ends up.
