Femme Fatale bears some resemblance to a girl who is very excited about collaborating with photographer Del LaGrace Volcano and a whole range of amazing femmes in London, Manchester, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, San Francisco, Atlanta, Portland (so far) in making a book called called Femmes of Power: Exploring Queer Femininities (Serpent's Tail Press). Funded by no one, this project is motivated by nothing less than a passionate conviction that femmes should be celebrated, and that femme solidarity and identification is one way to think ourselves out of a heteropatriarchal box in which femininity is nothing more than the reflection of a phallic fantasy. It is not only a transdisciplinary and translocal collaboration, it is an act of love, solidarity, and alliance, in dialogue, an offering and a gift. ************************************************************ *************************** I've been living, writing, researching and organizing around Femme for many years now. Sure, I am a candy girl, I love strawberries and champagne, and yes, I can be a princess, and contrary to popular belief, blondes have more guns, BUT all this is just another way of saying that I'm a bad ass power femme teaching goddess, a femme activist committed to anti-racist queer feminist community making, a political writer and an optimist, a non-nostalgic believer in a politics of femme-inist practice and sisterhood based in fighting oppression in all its varied forms and in accountability to each other and the world, firmly convinced that I gotta use all the privileges I got and that massive student debt I accrued to FUCK SOME SHIT UP. I've got a big heart, I'm used to taking shit, I may be a cynic romantic, but ultimately I remain a lover of many things and people. I'm a busy girl so don't waste my time but yes, I always have time for the fierce members of the transnational queer kinship network in all its fluid visceral embodied virtual figurations. There.
