Geoffrey Gordon was born in New York City in 1952. He grew up in Long Island, NY. He started music studies playing bass fiddle continuing in orchestras throughout High School and College. He began playing drums at the age of twelve. He played in rock bands in college in and around Woodstock and Ithaca NY from 1971-1974. He began studying tabla and Indian Classical Music in 1975. Geoffrey started practicing yoga, mediation and chanting in 1971 after meeting Ram Dass, Zen Master Eido Roshi, monks from The Vedanta Society and Ananda Marga Yoga Society. Geoffrey became a tabla student of Ustad Allarakha and later with his son Ustad Zakir Hussain. He studied vocal music with North Indian Classical Music maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. At the age of twenty five he moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. Since then he has performed on major motion picture soundtracks, on many popular recordings, and on the Broadway stage in Tony Award winning shows. He's composed and performed music for renowned dancers, poets, storytellers, shamans, and yogis. He's leads devotional chanting known as kirtan and accompanies many devotional singers. Geoffrey currently resides in The Bay Area in California.
