About Me

James Davis is a talented and experienced guitar player who incorporates Smooth Jazz melodies into R&B, Gospel, Hip-Hop and Americana. Originally from Huntsville, Alabama he creates music for the soul. Currently residing in Nashville, James Davis is writing and recording instrumental tracks for film, television and advertising. His biggest influences include Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Larry Carlton, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

James Davis moved to Nashville in 1986 to attend Belmont University as a commercial music major studying Jazz and guitar. He played in multiple music ensembles while there and in 1988 he auditioned for a show band and was offered a position as a guitarist. James performed several shows a day and weeks before graduation he was offered yet another guitarist position on a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship. After 6 months of cruising the ocean playing jazz he moved back to Nashville where he met Cedric & Victor Caldwell who have produced Cece Winans, Take 6, Whitney Houston and Brandy. Through their connection James was enlisted as lead guitarist on Cece Winan's first solo tour. Her album, "Alone In His Presence" would eventually be certified platinum and would win Cece a Grammy.

After touring with Cece for 2 years, James Davis continued to tour with other artists from the Nashville area. Eventually he cut down on his touring and began to focus on writing and recording his own material. He is currently recording instrumental tracks for film, television and advertising.
