Laughing Hearts Blissfully Divine

About Me

Los Angeles is my home (since 1989), originally from Buffalo New York. Sang backup with Buffalo band the Splat Cats. In Los Angeles sang backup with the Benett Band and Los Cincos/April March. Was lead singer and lyricist with the multi-talented Creekbird and others with the Giggles in the late 90's. My Western vocal teacher on and off for the past 10 years is Peisha McPhee along with super accompanist Mel McDancil. Found my way into world music and sacred music from different traditions. Studied a bit of Northern Indian Classical Music with Paul Livingstone and Sangeet School of Music. Sang backup on Paul's CD Salaam Suite. Study world music vocals. with Shanti Shivani and Najwa GibranSometimes performing in Peisha and Mel's Cabaret Workshop where I like to sing Johnny Mercer songs, big band tunes and a twist of mantras in the cabaret music's intimate setting. Performances held at the Gardenia in West Hollywood. Also singing sacred/healing music and mantras at various yoga studios in classes or for events in the Los Angeles area. Sometimes done in kirtan style ( call and response). Music as a connection to the Divine and one's deeper self and for healing is what I am most passionate about as a singer. It took me several years to find that as a deeper why to the singing. I am also a professional illustrator ( mostly kids art) and yoga teacher.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: amyreich.com
Band Members: Myself and various others as guests usually on percussion, piano and sometimes flute. Most recently: Andrew Werderitsch, Danny Rossman, Kelly Crowe and Jon Hawaii. Would love to collaborate with other world musicians to help fill out my sound. I play tampura (Indian drone instrument) and also autoharp when I perform live.
Influences: Grew up listening to am radio, classical music and other styles. Was a Beatle freak at age 8, loved John Phillip Sousa marches and other stuff on old 78's and 8 tracks as a child. As a teenager loved big band music, punk, new wave and was singing classical music at the Community Music School. There are zillions of genres that have had some sort of influence on me and who I am today as a musician.
Sounds Like: Me, myself and I!! I'm presenting a cross between cabaret/world music/ mantras/ sacred music with heart and koo koo- ness depending on the collaboration and setting. Melding and designing my own unique me-ness with music. Mantras with droney accompaniment take one on an inner journey with ethereal layers of voice to a deeper, stronger place and sound. Sometimes more pop sounding and appealing to kids jumping around in my kids yoga classes. Simple but powerful and an expression of my truth.
