THE RED-EYES

MIGHTY!!!!

About Me

‘sheer brilliance...’ - Beat Magazine
‘musically rich & beautifully produced...’ - In The Mix
Considered by fans & music critics alike as one of the few authentic Dub/Reggae groups to come out of Australia, THE RED-EYES are a 10-piece monster band that has been shaking foundations around the country with their heavyweight bass & mind-altering Dub sound. Arming themselves with bass, drums, guitar, keyboards, percussion, trumpet, sax, trombone and live dubs, THE RED-EYES are led by fiery singer El Witeri who draws on his Maori heritage for inspiration. THE RED-EYES live show is nothing short of incendiary. The pressure builds with melodic slow-burners and sci-fi dub and erupts with fist-in-the-air militant reggae.
Since their inception in 2002 THE RED-EYES have played killer shows including festivals such as Meredith, Woodford Folk Festival, Pyramid Rock (’04 and ’06), Bellingen Global Carnival, St.Kilda Festival, Peats Ridge (’05 and ’06), Great Escape and numerous national tours. THE RED-EYES have supported the likes of The Mad Professor, Dub Syndicate, Salmonella Dub, Black Seeds, Cornerstone Roots, Concord Dawn, Sola Rosa, Pitch Black & The Resin Dogs to name a few. These shows have received glowing reviews, often claiming that THE RED-EYES explosive live show has eclipsed the main act.
With the help of funding from the JB Seed grant, THE RED-EYES recorded two EPs, ‘HIGH PLACE’ and ‘PROLIFIC/MY KINGDOM’ followed by their debut album ‘RUDE WORLD’. These milestones in Australian music have enjoyed solid airplay in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Pacific Islands and Canada having collectively sold over 10,000 copies invading venues, homes and DJ record bags.
‘RUDE WORLD’ has its roots firmly planted in traditional rhythm and melody whilst launching into intergalactic dub effects. Confidently melding their disparate styles and influences, from the soulful opening track “The Power” to the militant politically driven stomper “Arms Over Jordan” (featured on Rolling Stone Magazine’s compilation CD, April ’07). Two years in the making, the album combines masterfully produced beats, honest heartfelt lyrics, with shake the house rhythms that set a benchmark for Australian Dub/Reggae.
Now The Red Eyes are embarking on their most grueling schedule to date. A tri-state residency incorporating QLD, NSW and VIC over the month of February. Every Thursday at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi, every Friday at Revolver in Melbourne and Saturday the 9th and 23rd at Step Inn in Brisbane. Plus bonus shows on Sunday the 10th at Solbar in Coolum and Sunday the 24th a special afternoon show at the Beach Hotel in Byron. You never know what special guests will pop their head in to get up and jam, but there will be some big surprises!
