The deep, hypnotic sounds of dub music spawned in Jamaica in the 70's serve as the foundation for Sine's music, Sine are one of the few bands in Australia to play a rootsy dub sound, heavy bass lines, off beat chords, delayed horn lines and tight drums lines.... taking inspiration from the past and blending it with the possibilities of the present. Sine was initially formed as a loose collective to play a Sunday afternoon residency at the Laundry in Fitzroy, Melbourne. A Sunday afternoon dub and roots gig called Coming in from the Cold. Originally booked to play for four weeks, the residency ended up stretching out into a four month residency. During this period many different musicians joined the ranks of the band, some playing only one gig, others playing several. The result was some extraordinary jam sessions before the band settled into its current line up. Since the four month residency at the Laundry, Sine have played numerous gigs in and around Melbourne. No longer a collective or a jam band Sine features permanent members from bands such as Morph and Agency Dub Collective, tight horn lines, infectious rhythms and grooves, all being dubbed live by their engineer Yuval to create a truly unique sonic experience. On the 11th of June 2009 Sine opened for one of biggest names in reggae and dub music in the world, the one and only Lee 'Scratch' Perry at his only Australian show at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Luminous Festival which was curated by Brian Eno. Sine received this massive privilege after being noticed by Eno on youtube. Sine took to the stage in front of a sold out Opera House theatre and were received very well by the dub savvy crowd. Their sound engineer Yuval worked the mixing desk hard and Adrian Sherwood even jumped to let a few siren blasts go while they performed. Sine have recently finished their debut EP 'Sub Frequence' which is available online at http://www.redeye.com.au or at www.cdbaby.comWe're currently playing gigs in and around Melbourne town, we're always interested in hooking up with other Australian Reggae and Dub bands and DJs, contact us [email protected]......
