About Me
NATTY SISTREN SOUND
As Australias original all-female sound, Natty Sistren have emerged on the scene as true reggae underground favourites. With a style embedded firmly in the old school tradition of dancehall and heavyweight roots, they have rammed up Melbourne audiences since their conception in 2003.
Although a relatively new sound in Melbourne, Sista Itations and Vida-Sunshyne are no strangers to the scene. Sista Itations has enjoyed a solo career as a reggae selector since 2001, having performed at venues all over Melbourne. This lead to 3 residencies (with Jesse I and Ras Crucial) including Ruff Enuff (Cape Lounge) and Mash It Up (First Floor).
Vida-Sunshyne has an extensive resume, including collaborations with the likes of Chant Down Sound, Diafrix, Illzilla and Melbourne based producer Mista Savona (where she featured on his highly acclaimed "Melbourne Meets Kingston" LP). Vida-Sunshyne has warmed the stage for reggae greats such as Burning Spear (2000) and Ranking Joe (2004 - with Chant Down Sound, Good Vibrations Festival), toured in Manchester UK as feature vocalist for hip hop/ragga collaboration experiment entitled The Aftershock Project. In 2004, she joined forces with producer Dutch from Dutch and Xcise, and they have been collaborating in the studio since.
Natty Sistren have been spotted at venues such as Prince of Wales, Corner Hotel, The Evelyn, The Espy, First Floor, Brown Alley, Laundry & Croft Institute. They have performed at Federation Square as part of the Melbourne Afrobeats Festival and featured as upcoming local talent at The Victorian Arts Centre's "Our Backyard". They have featured as support for Tippa Iries 2005 Melbourne show, and more recently, warmed the Melbourne stage for the reggae legends such as Ziggy Marley, Luciano and Mikey General during their 2007 Australian tours. In March 2006 they debued their resident monthly Pressure Drop, held every 4th Saturday of the month at The Laundry, Fitzroy.
With more works in the pipeline, Natty Sistren are a sound to watch for as they continue to spread universal reggae vibes across the nation and beyond...
