VOODOO DRED SOUNDSYSTEM (NEW DUB SPECIAL))

Born in Mexico City to Haitian parents, VOODOO DRED a.k.a. Vadim Juste-Constant moved to Australia when only 3. Music was a major part of his family life, with his father as well reknowed touring singer througout Haiti and Mexico. Mainly growing up in Sydney, Brisbane and later Darwin, all impacting on the developing artist VOODOO DRED. In 2007, he arrived in Melbourne, looking for a new channel for his compelling/dynamic love for music. He has been touring as a diverse artist since 2000 not only as VOODOO DRED but as an MC/singer and musician playing instruments from drums, guitar, bass and percussion. Music has taken Vadim to performances in most capital cities of Australia and around the world, including Venezuela in South America, Papua New Guinea and back to his birth place of Mexico. VOODOO DRED quotes his main influences as his father and legends such as Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Wyclef Jean. They became the source to inspire, challenge, nourish and share his pleasure in rhythm and music that was a constant from his childhood. Raised upon the Haitian rhythms of Kompa and the Central American music that pumps out through his mash up of Hip Hop, Dancehall, World beats and Jungle. The sounds that evolve when he’s on stage are unexpected, dynamic and energising to the dance floor. VOODOO DRED has been composing music since 1997. He has developed a distinct sound that has been described as a blend of tribal/orchestral. “The concept of what I want to create is to continue the west african tradition of a Griot but in an urban, contemporary sense. Going back to traditional african beats and translating them into a hip hop context, I believe traditional african drumming is the original “trance” music because back in the day they would play these rythms for days on end and literally get into a trance.” With a love for orchestral sounds and the depth of mood which they add to his beats he has developed a truly unique blend of music.Some of his supporting gigs include the 4 time DMC champion DJ Dexter, Aussie Hip Hop band the Resin Dogs, and singing on the same stage as Reggae Legends Luciano, Horace Andy & Mikey General at Hamer Hall. Festival gigs include the 2007 Meridith Music Festival, 2007 Melbourne Big Day Out, 2007 Perth Festival and 2002, 2003 & 2008 Adelaide Festival, 2007-8 St Kilda Festival, 2006 Darwin Bass in the Grass, 2007 Stradbroke Island Reggae Under the Stars. 2001 People Scape - Centenary of Federation Conert, 2006 NSW, VIC & QLD Regional ARTS tour.
