About Me

Tuva & the Far Out Orchestra - Wildflowers (Dolly Parton)
Privaten Café, Holmsbu, 18/07.2007
My name is Tuva Sofie W. G. Andersen, and I was born in Oslo, Norway in September 1983. I was lucky to be born into a family full of musicians, and I developed an early interest in in music and started to sing and "play" (he he) piano and make music at a very young age. And with a little help and inspiration from parents (My mother; singer, songwriter, guitarist, conductor and pianist & my father; harmonica player, saxophonist, guitarist, conductor, singer and songwriter), this interest in music just grew. I remember being brought along to rehearsals with my dad's blues band and then jamming with him when we got back home, he would play guitar and harmonica and i would sing and improvise.. This was how I first got into blues and roots music, I guess.. My mother conducted a chamber choir at that time as well, and I remember sitting underneath the grand piano while they were singing and playing Hndel's Messias and Mozart's The magic flute..
At the age of 9 I fell in love with jazz music, and started to learn all the tunes from my parents jazz records. It could be anything from be bop to soft standard tunes.. In the following years, I started to compose my own songs, and the genre could be described as something between pop, rock, blues, country, folk, soul and jazz.. he he. I've always been a bit indecisive. :-) Anyway, after graduating from high school, I wanted to travel a bit, and lived in Rome for 6 months. Then I decided to study music in Oslo at the Nordic Institute for Stage and Studio (Norsk Lydskole) for two years. Something I'm very glad I did, because it opened a lot of doors for me, and I got to know a lot of fantastic and talented persons. The guys in my band (Tuva & The Far Out Orchestra) among others... We have been playing together for almost 3 years, and they are such talented and inspiering people! I'm very lucky to have them with me.
