Rough n' rowdy Blues at it's finest!

About Me

The JukeHounds name comes from the rough and rowdy juke joints of the past where great blues was served up along with dancing, drinking, and good times. They’re an up-beat band that makes you want to move, true to the soul of the blues. The JukeHounds showcase the talents of guitarist John Stachela. His ripping slide and soulful licks will bring to mind blues legends of the past and present. The LA Music Scene published, "John Stachela on guitar is something to see; during his solos his seamless fingering was dizzying to the eye and blissful to the ear.” Don't let that fool you though. Not just some flashy guitar player, Johnny can capture your soul with one note. He has shared the stage with John Mayall, Billy Preston, Robben Ford, Jonny Lang, and Los Lonely Boys, and has performed such events as SXSW, Beale Street Music Festival, and the Verizon Music Festival, along with countless blues clubs.

Stachela has surrounded himself with blues veterans Brandon Matheson and Don Fischer. Matheson cut his teeth playing drums with legends like John Lee Hooker, Lowell Fulsom, and J.J. Bad Boy Jones. He crossed the country playing venues from CBGB in New York to the Forum in Los Angeles. Texan Don Fischer was part of the Austin music scene and played the historic venues Antone’s and Austin City Limits and New Orleans’ Tipitinas. Both Fischer and Matheson sing lead vocals and duets reminiscent of the Jimmy Reed sound. Together they form a rough and tumble rhythm section.

Formed in 2006, this rockin' Blues trio captures the original sounds of the delta and takes the music a little further down the road. Don Fischer writes original music for the band, like "Love, Love, Love" and "Everyday Man" on their debut CD. You'll also hear him sing bona fide gulf coast blues from Lightnin' Slim and Lazy Lester. Don's bass lines keep the musical freight train on track, and his vocals embody the authentic Texas twang. Brandon Matheson, a rugged individual, is a madman behind the drums who commands attention and always puts on a show. Singing Elmore James or Howlin' Wolf, Brandon makes the tunes his own. In their skillful hands, John Stachela is free to interpret the blues with authority. The JukeHounds deliver an uncompromising show that is attracting an ever- growing fan base. It's rough and rowdy blues at its finest.

The term juke has its origins in West Africa, where similar terms mean “wicked”. Juke joints are thus understood to be potentially rough and rowdy, with drinking, dancing, and live music. They were key incubators of the blues.
