THE DEMONS ARE ABUNDENT, ALONG WITH THE RATS

About Me

____________________________________________________________ ______If you’re looking for some super smooth, over produced, pretty pop tunes, or love songs then keep on looking. You won’t find it here. Sahib Radio’s music is raw, rough around the edges, gritty, and doesn’t really fit into any specific genre. Subject matter is usually controversial, and dark. Life competes with death. Demons compete with angels, and the past competes with the present. And none of it is very pretty. This is not top 40 stuff, nor does Sahib expect it to ever be accepted by the masses. He once stated that if he’s lucky, maybe one out of every nine listeners would even like his work. He’ll be the first to admit that his work will never appeal to any record label, and that is just fine with him. He doesn’t perform live anymore, giving that up several years ago. He considers himself a recording artist and the whole recording process as an art form in itself. He writes, arranges, plays most all the instruments, records, and mixes everything himself in the comforts of his home recording studio, in Western North Carolina. The end product being a piece of art by an artist. After all, would a visual artist hire someone to brush the paint onto the canvas and interpret what they visualize? Sahib is a true indie artist and considered by many to be a dominate figure in the internet indie music revolution going on in the world today.______________________________________________________ _________ Maria Daines 7/29/2005 Paying respect... Some musicians lead the way and clear paths for others to follow... It's hard to put into words what Sahib Radio does to make his music a listening experience rather than merely songs that you can take or leave. If you 'get' his work then you are hooked & that's just the way of it. I'm not sure if it's the telling of his stories, in a voice that you know may possibly have lived through these scenes or if it is the atmospheres that creep up on you as he creates sounds that can make the music trade places with your mind and the colours there. As a lyricist it is hard to match anyone to these enlightening & challenging themes with poetic twists save one or two famed wordsmiths that hang easily in the genius catchment. This brings me to the conclusion that Sahib is a complete artist and one who deserves the title 'Unique' and will surely in the next few years earn the mantle 'Legendary' to go with it. ___________________________________________________________P osted: 10 Jul 2005 01:31 Subject: Steve Gilmore Reviews: Sahib Radio - We're Gonna Be Visited I picked up this track though, from my Songplanet list, so let's get to it. I admit I have had prior exposure to this artist because he is becoming quite a SP Radio playlister so it's inevitable I'll get a listen sooner rather than later. Not quite sure where Sahib is from because he seems to have wandered the world a bit but when he makes music as awesome as this I couldn't give a toss where he's from. One thing is crystal clear; he speaks the same language as me (music) and he speaks it fluently. Listening over and over again to We're Gonna Be... I am struck every time at how much this artist reminds me of Dr John, the ol' night tripper himself. The music too, has a certain gumbo feel to it too; either that or Sahib is conciously trying to recreate the sound and arrangement of this seminal artist. One thing is for certain in my mind, what is happening here is not copying - it's paying respect. If, as may well be the case, Sahib is NOT influenced by Dr John and his many works he's still managed to hit the nail bang on the head bit... Other tracks from this artist show sides that remind you of artists such as Lou Reed and the incomparable Tom Waits. All of the musical references I have cited specialise in a particular style of American music which right now is known as Americana - and it's a word that fits almost every Sahib Radio I have heard. The music you hear sounds ethnic, but underneath there's this rock sensibility that provides the powerhouse of the music. An artist to be savoured, in heaped up doses. Highly Recommended ____________________________________________________________ ____
