El Cuero was founded in the summer of 2005 by two brothers from the little town of Kristiansund, one son of a preacher man from the even smaller Halsa, and one lunatic from the planes of Finnmark.
El Cuero has one foot in raw, naturalsounding rock, and one foot in "americana". This creates great contrasts from mellow, acoustic tunes to heavy soloworkouts.
The Takle Ohr brothers have been playing since 1992, working as a unit for close to 15 years, with hundreds of gigs in several bands together.
The brothers Brynjar and Haavard Takle Ohr, along with buddy Öyvind Blomström, started working on their first album immediately after founding El Cuero in 2005. They worked intensely with Brynjars songs, and they soon recruited Tommy Reite for bass duties.
Eager for the real, El Cuero made a rough-edge album with no compromises or studio tricks, recorded live with the whole band together in one room. Via their own label Gravel Road Music, the debut album “El Cuero†was released august 13th, to great critics in the national media.
The album was followed by a tour starting aug 24th and ended by christmas the same year. The band visited both small and big venues throughout the tour, and the audience started to grow.
Unorthodox and unstoppable as a live band, El Cuero always seeks new territories and ways to entertain themselves, as well as the audience. This one-of-a-kind band is genuine and authoritative with great solo guitar and a workingclass backing trio.
So far the album “El Cuero†has sold some thousand copies, which is exellent for a underground band like this.
Early February 2008 the band will bring their new songs into the studio and start working on their second album, which will be released Oktober '08.
