My name is Edward R. Elkins jr. My name means A rich guard with bright fame, Kin of Elisha in old teutonic English. I am 12th generation American. Decendant of the first minister to ever put a request for a charter to come to america. His name was Henry Elkins. He was put off for two years because of Old English politics and didnt come over first though. If he did the first pilgrims wouldnt have landed on plymouth rock he had a different route planned. Also 5 generations from Luther Elkins Oregons first Senator. He wrote the Elkins Act to stop the railroad. I started singing and playing instruments in grade school. I learned guitar at 17 and how to play keyboards. I started singing in church choirs at 19 and had started college to study music . I got kind of shanghaiid shortly after starting school and started traveling around a bit writing poetry and singing in choirs. I learned to be a detective when I was 27. I was working on the weekends at this beer garden called the cafe paris in Sacramento. The owner was a millionaire from argentina named Greg. His wife had died and he opened a beer garden so he wouldnt be lonely. He let the local bands use it to hold concerts. He didn't require a fee and let them keep all the money. He just required they all buy at least one beer. He told me how he booked the bands and talked to me about his success and failures abit and then spoke to me he wanted to sell the beer garden and go back to his native country Argentina. I discussed it a bit with my neighbor who was a bass player for the band Step Child a Funk metal band. Neither of us had the cash. I was working three jobs . I was a security officer at the Atorney Generals building , worked as an apartment manager or training to be one as an intern, and on the weekend a security person at the beer garden . I only worked a few weekends at the beer garden because It was too much to work on my days off. I was studying real property law. The owner of the apartments I was training to manage was a chinese Generals son named Leo Chan a billionaire who had graduated from harvard with a law degree. He wanted me to move to Japan and market his online casino which was based in the virgin islands. After talking to these rich guys I would sit and kind of envision owning my own empire of beer gardens with live music. for the next few years I developed a strategy and some starting plans for getting started. However after 9/11 I had become and unemployed detective living in a small town. I soon after enlisted in the army . I decided while in the army I would continue to work on my plans I had hoped to start in Nashville or somewhere in Virginia. Being a detective I thought it would be a nice break to be where the crime rate is low like virginia beach or somewhere . However the army was pretty determined to keep anyone from successfully doing their own thing. I got a hall of fame for fitness which was suprising at 32 that is hard to do in the military. However fit or not I hated the total control submission involved and the dictation of who people are and the amount of liberty and privileges . I wanted my freedom back and considered my music business plans more important than serving this country . I guess I kind of had a sore spot from being shanghaiied out of getting the same honor others were getting from the institution and grew a little wiser from self educating and learning the hard way. I spoke to my captain and senior drill sergeant about getting out early. They asked me what I was going to do when I got out . I told them I was a musician and wanted to work on a music business. They laughed and kind of ridiculed me. They made me sing the star spangled banner a bunch of times. finally at the end of the day they said I was a good singer really. A Sergeant Major spoke with me and I had also mentioned I was a poet. He told me to say I'm a poet and I know it. I did and he told a sergeant to write up my discharge papers. I got an early honored discharge with no real reason for discharge . I had spoke with a reserve recruiter after getting out about reenlisting as a reserve or guard. He said he had never seen a discharge like it before. I arranged to goto Hollywood I couldnt afford Nashville's airfare and didnt know that area well enough. I had lived in california and knew the area well. I used my detective skills to investigate how to do the music business and who to not do business with and who to do business with. I promoted night clubs for a while with a company called DMK world. I moved to Portland Oregon where I grew up after close to a year in Hollywood. In Portland my knowledge was increasing of how to do music business I started investigating further and brain stormed a new music enterprise that I am currently in the start up process with. Its been about 6 years since my first plans for a music business and I cant believe how hard it is just to fend off the people who are just college students wanting to pretend to be stars or evil old men just out for getting rich selling booze. Unlike Greg the beer garden owner. So much of the music business's purpose in modern day is hidden like dope dealing. In fact I think rock music's main purpose kind of became to market dope. I dont use drugs but I have been tempted alot since I started investigating the music business. Hollywood is crack central and the hip hoppers don't care who people are they'll smoke dope in youre face. I've even been tempted to throw executive party's . However thats not what being a musician is for. Music is as important as any product and drugs arnt the products my objective is to sell. If a musician wants to sell their attitude or their motivation or their skills. I hope to help empower them to do that. I only hope My business dont end up helping people seduce the masses to buy drugs or live all freaked out. All though underground is kind of a pit. I hope to fire off some rounds and fight it out with the masses a bit. When the smoke clears If things go as planned. My hopes are to dig underground like building a building with a strong foundation and developing a business that is like the tallest building in the world meaning something up and over everything else a real enterprise all over the globe. A new domain for music with a different purpose then the main stream nightclubbin currently.
