APPEAL FOR FAMINE RELIEF ASSISTANCE
Following the prolonged drought in 2006 which prevailed in many parts of Kenya as a result of unfavorable weather conditions, We started this Project. A lot still remains the same in 2008,due to lack of proper policy from all concerned quarters and political instability.:
The USAID-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS Net) warned that the political crisis was likely to cause severe food insecurity in both rural and urban areas. In the short-term the country is in urgent need of monetary assistance to purchase relief food and other non-food items such as water and sanitation, and to support agriculture and health services in the affected areas.
According to Augusta Abate, UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) assistant representative for Kenya, 75 percent of the estimated 300,000 people displaced from the Rift Valley have become destitute.
