Just now, at this very moment, paedophiles are surfing around on the Internet. They use the Net to make contacts with each other and with children. It’s a matter of well hidden, shady networks, on the edge of the digital highway.Paedophiles exchange child pornography, as well as buy and sell it.The deals are sometimes made instantaneously and anonymously. Sometimes the material is deposited in large, well-hidden digital libraries. Other times it’s openly flaunted – despite the distribution of pornography being forbidden in virtually all countries. As a matter of fact, it’s just as illegal to handle child pornography in digital form as in printed or filmed form.Child pornography consists of written documents, pictures, or film sequences which describe the sexual encroachment of children. This sexual encroachment is in effect prolonged when pornographic pictures are distributed and hidden away on the Internet. As long as this shady traffic is allowed to continue, innocent children will be degraded in this way over and over again. It’s like an organised rape of children, which continues as long as there is a demand, and as long as we others close our eyes to the problem.Paedophiles know that the risk of getting caught has so far been minimal. But not any more!Save the Children has decided not to let the Internet be a marketplace for child pornography any longer. That’s why we’re taking up the fight against child pornography here and now, and directly on the Net.We need all the help we can get.Your help.We therefore want you to report to us when and how you run into child pornography on the Net. Please email us at [email protected] with any information.
