About Me

Marie-Joseph-Paul-Roch-Yves-Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (September 6, 1757 – May 20, 1834), was a French aristocrat most famous for his participation in the American Revolutionary War and early French Revolution. La Fayette is considered a national hero in both France and the United States and is one of only six people in history to become an honorary U.S. citizen. Many places in the United States are named for me. My full name and title are seldom used in the U.S., where I am usually known simply as "Lafayette".
