Embarrassing Fruits are so very excited to bring you their brand new EP, "The First Time." The Fruits are living in the days before iPods, when crowded basement summertime shows and college radio ruled. Divebomb guitars and a slight Southern slant harken back to mid-nineties Chapel Hill glory. Come on out, drink some beers, and help celebrate the new baby.

Listening is becoming a rare practice, but talking seems to run amuck, maybe because few are really listening while so many are trying to be heard.
Well, thanks for hearing me out.
I'll try to listen when hearing you, too.

Why would a 50 year old man want a MySpace site, you might ask? Well, I'm not into self promotion much, so that's not it, but I do view this format as a means of expression, and frankly I want to expose my son's music, and his band, Embarrassing Fruits, to a broader audience. Why, what's in it for me, ego enhancement, am I living vicariously through him? Maybe, but that's not my field of expertise. I believe in my son, in his creativity, and I believe in his chosen art form, music.

May you find something to believe in.

I'll continue to strive for peaceful coexistence, and a simple life.Hoping for a collective understanding of the inalienable rights of man (women too), and a meeting of the minds to save the world before it implodes / explodes. I'm still expecting miracles, seeking the truth and dealing with the truth, and asking that those who purport their religion over everyone else just chill. I believe that while God is a divine concept, perfect, man's attempts to understand God are flawed, imperfect, because we are imperfect. We do not have all the answers, and we shouldn't act as if we do (this may be my religion but don't worry I won't force it on you).

Judge danger to be what it is, avoid those who dwell in the dark side, try to have faith in something bigger, and don't let the bastards get you down (their time of reckoning will come).

My son said to me the other day, after several good reviews for his band, Embarrassing Fruits, some international attention from Side One Track One in Australia and music blogs around the country, Joe said, "What now?". I gave him the best answer I could manage, I asked him if you love your music, writing it and performing, and it gives you a reason to continue, then do so. Your art is your life, and while you hold down a nine to five job, you still have this outlet, this art release to come home to, and that's a beautiful thing.

PRESS:

Every once in a while, a band comes around that reminds you of how much fun rock 'n' roll used to be, before the world collectively developed a fear of amplifiers. On their debut EP, The First Time, Embarrassing Fruits prove that they are that sort of band, providing the shot in the arm that has been needed for quite some time.
-Jamie Williams, Diversions Blog

While listening to The First Time EP, the Trekky Records debut from Chapel Hill trio Embarrassing Fruits, certain physical sensations drift in and out: There's the smell of a packed club in the summer heat, the feeling of wind rushing past your ears in a roofless car and the feeling of déjà vu. But this is a welcome sort of nostalgia, a re-simplification of indie rock that harkens to early '90s touchstones. Think Pavement on sedatives. Think Dinosaur Jr. without the feedback.
-Ian Miller, Independent Weekly

Embarrassing Fruits-- "The First Time" Sometimes the combination of snippets of words, a singer's voice and a catchy riff are all it takes for me to like a song, and that's the case with this. Just enjoy it.
-lost in your inbox blog

With a low Silver Jews-like tone, mid-range vocals and poppy-flavored lyrics, one of North Carolina’s top indie bands is well on their way.
-Heather Mac, YES! Weekly

It’s hard to put a finger on why this is different from mp3 blog darlings like The Ting Tings, Fleet Foxes or Wolf Parade. But for me it harkens back to an earlier sound that I’ve yet been able to get over. It’s the sound of early Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Big Dipper, Galaxie 500, Superchunk, Meat Puppets and on and on. Man I love that sound…what ever happened to it?

Blank_Blank and Embarrassing Fruits: "sumr stupid drunk fun ." This split LP from two of the most energetic and enjoyable local indie groups is a great introduction for newcomers and a lot of fun for those already in the know. It's never too early to start thinking of summer.
-Daniel McMillan, GoTriad

Embarrassing Fruits, a band whose dive-bomb guitars and Southern slant recall mid-'90s Chapel Hill glory.
-Kathy Justice, Independent Weekly

I like this band, Embarrassing Fruits, for the simple reason that they don't sound much like any other band, and that's probably a very good thing, but I still want to know what a divebomb guitar is, regardless.
-Joe's Dad

N.C. State's post-Earth Day show, which bears the unfortunate title Smells Like Green Spirit, is one of the better local rock bills of the year so far. Embarrassing Fruits, Hammer No More the Fingers and Red Collar—three energetic indie rock bands who stack divebomb guitars and sharp hooks in three-minute anthems—should make it feel (favorably) like it's 1993.

New Orleans ladies
Sassy style that will drive you crazy
And they hold you like the light
Hugs the wick while this candle's burning

Them Creole babies
Thin and brown and downright lazy
And they roll just like the river
A little wave will last forever

All the way
From Bourbon Street to Esplanade
They sashay by
They sashay by

New Orleans ladies
A flair for life, love and laughter
And they hold you like the night
Holds a chill when this cold wind's blowing

Them Creole babies
They strut and sway from dusk till dawn
And they roll just like a river
A little wave will last forever

All the way
From Bourbon Street to Esplanade

The simple beauty of that scene reveals the oft hidden innocense of our own humanity, guilt aside, we really are good inside if we just let it happen in our lives.
