I think, therefore I am............... (I think)

About Me

OK I guess I should tell you something about me. Both my folks are from Trinidad (tiny Caribbean island opposite Venezuela.) They ran away to London way back when to see if this really was the land of milk and honey and also to be together- nobody approved of their union back then. They had me in London so I guess that makes me a cockney sparra! I grew up in the East End of London where I had the greatest of opportunities to study violin, piano and sing in various choirs at Newham Academy of Music from the age of around 6 until I left school at 18. I giggled my way through most performances and never remembered my words. In my teens I started to have a push me/pull me jostle with myself; torn between relying on my eyes to read the dots and wanting to develop the ideas that were floating round my head I migrated to Liverpool to study jazz piano and voice so that I could expand my song ideas. I never left Liverpool. That may change once my daughter has flown the nest, but only time will tell........................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................My early musical journey then was firmly based in classical music. I'm eternally grateful for the discipline that gave me because by nature I am a snake who likes to lounge around in the sunshine doing as little as possible - fortunately the reality is different! I am one of four artistc directors of Sense of Sound which is a training organisation that specialises in vocal coaching! Check it out www.senseofsound.net........................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................... Music is an extension of me! I have always known that it is what I wanted to immerse myself in, and I do! I am actually not very good at anything else. My tastes are hugely varied from Stevie to Chopin, Bulgarian tradtional folk singing to Prince, Joan Armatrading to Penguin Cafe Orchestra and everything in between! I manage a choir of 30 singers (a cappella at its finest!) and I really wish to collaborate with as many diverse artists as possible in terms of writing, arranging and performing! ............................................................ .................................. I set my company up in 1991 with 3 other formidable women and since then we have been on a roller coaster ride. I have lectured at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Insttute of Performing Arts (LIPA), been on stage alongside George Michael and Elton John, done backing vocals for Ray Lamontagne........and am currently working with Damon Albarn on his new opera, Monkey; A Journey to the West and am also Business Woman of the Year for Arts and Culture (awarded by the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners)...get me! :PThe older I get the less tied down I want to feel . I have always been in relationships that somehow don't measure up to my heart's content. So now all I want to do is be creative, travel, meet funny, intelligent, progressive people and have fun! Not much to ask now is it!Background By Free Layouts for Myspace

Band Members:My latest collaboration sees me working alongside Philipp Moll and we are called Killer Fernandez. I love the electronic stuff we are doing and I get a chance to really explore vocally and globally. It's very cool. In my more acoustic moments I'm working with Emily Barden who is playing guitar with me. It really does vary from mood swing to mood swing although Vicky Edwards on bass does seem to be the most constant! She is the most talented understated rock there is to work with. Vicky is the coolest bass player I have ever had the good fortune to work with.Ranjit Burman co wrote YOU BY MY SIDE and BLUEBIRD and plays guitar on them both.WHISPER features Jo Bywater on Guitar, Ola Bienkowska on Backing Vocals, Dave Sulter on congas/percussion and Sarah Anderson on Violin and Viola.MELT features Adam Skinner on kit, Randal Breneman on Guitar and Marc Broomby on bass. Backing vocals feature the wonderul Amy Smith. The songs Orders in My House was a song I wrote many moons ago and is still my favourite. I co-produced it with Tracey Carmen and the same goes for Needle. THANKS TO YOU ALL XXX
