WHERE THERE'S A WHEEL, THERE'S A WAY.

About Me

I am the play-by-play announcer for the Carolina Rollergirls, which coincidentally makes me the luckiest bastard on the planet. If you've never worked with a kick ass, high octane, rough and tumble all-girl flat-track roller derby league, then you're pissing your life away. It's the best way I can express my inner punk... and we all have an inner punk. Some express it through their music and dress, while others project it through their attitude, but we all have an instinctive need to piss off the world. To flip-off every asshole we see. To grab a fat lazy society by the lapels and slam its face into a cold hardened reality. To put so many tattoos on our body that we need a skin transplant to make room for more.If you've ever felt pain, you've felt punk. If you've ever felt vindicated, you've felt punk. If you've ever felt like an outcast, you've felt punk. How do you express your inner punk?Do you crank your music and slam around the room? Do you notice the injustices and travesties in the world or your neighborhood? Do you smile when someone busts their ass on the ice?I hold down a pretty buttondown job by day, but I am required to let my inner punk kick out the jams and have its way with me or I will find myself crushed by the critical mass.I look forward to seeing all of us punks rise to the surface... so we can let'em have it!

Looking back now on the Dust Devil Invitational in Tucson, it seems like a short novel I might have read on an airplane: Boy travels to desert, screams head off for four days, parties at the Flamingo...

MNRG v. CRG 2-19-06 Part Three (third and final act)

Sitting comfortably behind my desk, I can see out my window into the snowy city night. Apparitions whirl madly in the wind, twisting up to the streetlight before vanishing into the darkness. And loo...

MNRG v. CRG 2-12-06 Part Two (two week retrospective)

It's one week later and the old memory is not quite as sharp; the details of conversations turn to distant murmurs, but the crux of the stories can still be told. We show up at the Sheraton in down...

MNRG v. CRG 2-5-06 Part One (one week retrospective)

This morning, I find myself seated in the exact same tweed covered office chair that I occupied one week earlier, but under much different circumstances. Today I have the luxury of hindsight, with th...

Big Ed, Jesse Helms and Santa Claus (12-03-05)

I was huddled with a small but hungry group of people waiting to gain access to Big Ed's Country Restaurant in City Market. The line had stretched out the door and onto the sidewalk. The three guys in...

CRG v. MRG 11-24-05 (One week retrospective)

Minnesota seems like a faint memory shimmering on a distant horizon.   Without regret I can say both teams played with fierce conviction and the bout was much closer...
