In 1932 two French students and jazz enthusiasts founded the jazz club Hot Club de France in Paris.
It was the first organization worldwide whose primary purpose was the promotion and safeguarding of jazz.
Their efforts concentrated mainly on inviting American jazz musicians to France. But the Hot Club de France soon widened its array of activities and took on gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt’s quintet (including Stéphane Grappelli) as its resident band.
In May 2005 a few enthusiasts founded the Hot Club de Gand.
Its aim is to promote acoustic live music, particularly club concerts. Contrary to most hot clubs, Hot Club de Gand does not focus on Django Reinhardt’s legacy only.
The Hot Club de Gand does not want to confine itself to one genre, but prefers to engage in a wide range of musical traditions. Thus our club’s programme features various aspects of the jazz scene.
In addition, there is room for flamenco, folk, classical music, blues, chanson, musette, ethnic music, tango, fusion, gypsy music...

In 1932 wordt op initiatief van twee Franse studenten en jazzenthousiastelingen in Parijs de jazzclub 'Hot Club de France' opgericht.
Het was de eerste organisatie in de wereld die zich tot doel stelde de jazz te beschermen en te bevorderen.
De promotie is er vooral op gericht om Amerikaanse jazzmusici naar Frankrijk te halen. De Hot Club de France breidt haar activiteiten snel uit en neemt het kwintet van Django Reinhardt (met Stephane Grappeli) in dienst als huisorkest; het krijgt de naam 'Quintette du Hot club de France'.
In mei 2005 richten enkele enthousiastelingen de Hot Club de Gand op met debedoeling akoestische live muziek, en in het bijzondere caféconcerten, te bevorderen.
In tegenstelling tot de meeste 'Hot Clubs' wordt er niet enkel het erfgoed van Django Reinhardt gepromoot.
De Hot Club de Gand wil zich niet binden aan één genre maar zoekt naar een brede waaier van muziekstijlen. Er wordt dus jazz in al haar facetten en kleuren geprogrammeerd maar er is ook plaats voor flamenco, folk, klassiek, blues, chanson, musette, etnische muziek, zigeunermuziek...
