Yer editors, Jamaica Rose & Capt. Michael MacLeod, bring you the history, lore, romance, and sheer adventure of bein' a pirate or privateer.

This periodical of historical (and not-so-historical) merit will cover a broad range of sea adventurers, though focusing lavishly on the Golden Age of the buccaneers (based mainly in Tortuga, Port Royal, New Providence, the Spanish Main & Madagascar, during the 17th to early 18th C.).

COMMUNICATING WITH US

It’s wonderful if you want to leave messages for No Quarter Given. We will try to reply when appropriate, but remember, we may be out plundering and pillaging. We are often on cruizing voyages.

If you post comments on our page please stick to the No Quarter Given Code (well, they’re more like guidelines really) …

*** It’s right friendly if you leave a personal note of some type for us here at No Quarter Given. Do not use our page just to advertise yer endeavors.

*** Don't post anything that plays music or noises automatically. It frightens the parrot.

*** No naked pictures or explicit artwork. Even pirates have their standards.

THE BUCCANEER
...the Yul Brynner version

CUTTHROAT ISLAND
...good costuming, great theme music, great fight scenes, wooden dialog, no chemistry between Morgan Adams & Shaw

TREASURE ISLAND
...best one is the Charleton Heston version by Turner

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (1-3)

THE RETURN TO TREASURE ISLAND
...yeah, it's cheesy, but the pirate crew is pretty good (expect for a few ringers who were production people - like Pew) and Lance Henricksen should get a chance to be in a real pirate movie. Look for Michael MacLeod as one of the pirates

TRUE CARIBBEAN PIRATES (documentary)
...Look Jamaica Rose & Michael MacLeod

RETURN OF THE PIRATES (documentary)
...Look for Michael MacLeod

THE BUCCANEERS
...starring Robert Shaw

Heroes:

CAPTAIN JOHN SMITH - this man knew a lot, did a lot, wrote a lot, and mapped a lot. He fought the Turks in Transylvania, was captured, sold as a slave to a Turkish woman, who fell in love with him, but he escaped. Returned to Transylvania. Eventually signed up with the Virginia Company. He explored and mapped Virginia, and the Chesapeake Bay. Fiercely independent and bull-headed, he sometimes had problems playing the "political" games. But when put in charge of the colony, he was able to keep them from starvation, and helped them revive the settlement. Later, he wrote "A Sea Grammar", a very important resource for sailors of the time.
BARTHOLOMEW ROBERTS - the teetotaling pirate captain who captured over 400 vessels. Someone should make a movie about him.
BENERSON LITTLE - a former Navy SEAL turned pirate historian and author. He has brain and brawn, and resembles Liam Neeson a bit. He has been able to pull all sorts of interesting details out from his research. With his knowledge & experience as a SEAL, he is able to make sense of battle tactics and strategies, and add more depth to the explanation of them.
