RODANTHOS

About Me

Everything started when I was 8. My parents decided to buy a classical guitar for me. This decision was meant to change my life completely. I was playing at the mandolinata of Cephalonian musician and composer Fotis Aleporos in Athens. I played there for some years but then I discovered rock music and everything changed. In parallel my family moved to Thessaloniki and I started playing in some bands while I was studying Food science and Technology at the Aristotle University. Subsequently I moved to a small town (Wageningen) in the Netherlands to do my PhD in Microbiology. There I started Rodanthos back in 1999 as a vehicle to express myself by writing instrumental music based on a mixture of different elements from Eastern and Western cultures. The inspiration was the vivid international community of the town, of which I was a member. In parallel, I started writing songs in my mother tongue (Greek) as I believe it is difficult to express in a foreign language. Subsequently, I moved to Greece for my military service and then started working in the area of Molecular Microbiology in the UK and in Ireland. All this time I continued writing and recording music based on my experiences in these different places and countries. I also continued following closely the developments in my country Greece. All these experiences and my opinions regarding important developments in Greece and around the world, I hope to share with you... Enjoy.
Some words about my work:
Stasimotita (static): This song goes to all the 700G (700 Euro per month generation in Greece). If you find this song heavy and pesimistic, you are probably ... making more than 700 Euros per month. I was listening a lot to it also while iI was in the military service. A little bit more static period than working, regardless the salary.
Stavrodromi (crossroad): Instrumental piece with elements from various parts of the world. A conversation between an electric guitar a bouzouki and a piano. I love this piece because it expresses the multicultural social environment I have been living the last decade. Great!
i armonia tou aera (the harmony of air): A hymn to the physical harmony which is governed by natural asymmetry and chaotic patterns. We live in a world constructed of metal and cement which is ruled by the laws of human symmetry. This perfect symmetry is drawing lines which imprison our lives and our freedom. Feel the harmony of the air every time you breathe. You might not have so many chances in the future...
