Semsei Villalobos was a t'ai-chi ch'uan - taijiquan, ch'i kung - qigong, and Zen Meditation teacher in Southern California. And a Psych Nurse and Acclaimed Artist.
Villalobos Sensei helped to found the Zendo in San Francisco in the early 1960s with Suzuki Roshi. She also studied Yang style tai chi chuan at that time.
She traveled to India and lived in Auroville. She Lived and trained at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
Ruth was a trained artist and nurse. She was a psychiatric nurse by profession. She was an art student at UC Santa Cruz and later was an acclaimed artist.
She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Riverside
and lead the Zen Meditation group at the UU Church.
She also was part of the UU Church Dream group and practiced drumming with a drumming circle.
She studied Cheng Man Ching style in San Francisco in the 1960's,
Ruth went for advanced study of t'ai-chi ch'uan, pa-kua chang, and ch'i kung, with Sifu Harvey Kurland in Riverside CA at the University of California Riverside.
She studied T'ai-chi ch'uan at the University of California Riverside with Sifu Kurland for many years.

After years of dedicated study she took the NWTCCA certification test and received teaching certification from the NWTCCA.
NWTCCA has a very difficult teaching certification test. She was at the 500 hour level of training. She passed a written and a practical test. Ruth Passed easily. More on this test at http://www.dotaichi.com
All NWTCCA teachers are highly qualified.
Ruth traveled with Sifu Kurland and some of his most advanced students to Canada to train with Grandmaster Tchoung Ta-tchen and attend the 1996 Chinese Tai Chi Chuan Association World Conference.
The 1996 Conference was a three day event with masters and grandmasters from all over the world in attendance. Grandmaster Tchoung Ta-tchen was the featured Speaker.
Her teacher, Sifu Kurland, also spoke at the conference on reducing injuries in t'ai-chi ch'uan.
Ruth really enjoyed meeting Grandmaster Tchoung and working out with him and his Vancouver group. They hit it off and she studied along with Kurland's senior students in Grandmaster Tchoungs Home. See photo.
Ruth competed several times in t'ai-chi tournaments and won several trophies for tai chi form.
Ruth taught t'ai-chi ch'uan classes for the Riverside Community College Young at Heart Program; and taught t'ai-chi and ch'i kung for Mt. San Jacinto College.
She taught for RCC for many years. She also taught for the Redlands Senior Center in Redlands, CA.
Ruth started the Zen Meditation program for the Unitarian Universalist Church in Riverside. That Zen program continues today.
