MANSFIELD ZEN CENTER

I am here for Friends

About Me

MANSFIELD ZEN CENTER
is a very small urban apartment zendo now, but one day with the help of a committed Zen Buddhist Sangha we will have a bigger and more permanent zendo here in Mansfield. FOUNDER:
I was raised Catholic and studied Native American religions and Eastern Philosophy in my youth including Taoism and Buddhism and recently became a Lay Ordained Zen Buddhist in 2006. I have also participated in traditional Lakota Sioux sweat lodge and pipe ceremonies in the past. My Dharma name is "Doryu"-"Way of the Dragon". Three of my former teachers were in the Soto Zen lineage of Suzuki Roshi, author of the book "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" and founder of San Francisco Zen Center and Dainin Katagiri Roshi author of "Returning To Silence". I am not representing myself as a teacher here. But I am willing to share with anyone what I know of Buddhism and will answer any questions on Zen you may have as best as I can. Plus for more information, history, and photos about MANSFIELD ZEN CENTER please click here on the name or below on the logo to visit us on the world wide web.
HELP US FIND A ZENDO: If you can rent inexpensively or donate a building or space in a building in Mansfield then please contact me. A nice studio or store front with living space in the back would be ideal! We are in desperate need of a Zendo. I have a dream: If we can find a nice space I can then schedule daily zazen practice (sitting meditation), food distribution for the needy and meetings for the local peace group and let Mansfield Zen Center have a positive Buddhist presents here in Mansfield, OH for years to come.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few." -SHUNRYU SUZUKI - ROSHII have edited my layout at Crazyprofile.com

My Interests

"Buddhism is not a fundamentalist religion. It's teachings are not dogmas or articals of faith that have to be blindly accepted at the cost of suspending reason, critical judgment, common sense, or experience. Quite the contrary, in fact; their basic aim is to help us gain direct insight into the truth for ourselves". ~from The Buddhist Handbook by John Snelling
Nan-in served Tea. He poured his visitor's cup full, and then kept on pouring. The visitor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. "It is overfull. No more will go in!" "Like this cup," Nan-in said, "you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?" ~from Zen Flesh, Zen Bones by Paul Reps

I'd like to meet:

My intention is to provide support for practicing Zen Buddhists as well as beginners who are interested and willing to form a commitment to practice Zen Buddhism here on My Space and in Mansfield, Ohio. By communication, zazen (sitting meditation) and Buddhist study, developing relationships, the Sangha (Buddhist community of Monks, Nuns and Lay people) will become stronger as we work in the Mahayana tradition for the good of all sentient beings. I also want to educate the public and expand knowledge of Zen Buddhism in the Mansfield, OH area by inviting guest teachers when available and planning events sponsored by the War Resisters League. Please write me! I would love to here any feedback and comments you may have. I can't do this alone. Your support is needed here on My Space and in Mansfield. Zazen and zazen instruction at Mansfield Zen Center in Mansfield, OH is by appointment only, for now.

FRIENDS NOTICE: I will not add just anyone as a friend unless you are a Buddhist or have a sincere interest in Buddhism or some other kind of wisdom tradition or spirituality. And if this is not evident by your profile than you should write an email explaining why you want to be added as a friend of MZC. I'm not doing this just because I think Buddhism is cool or I like Buddhist themes for my page. My intention is to help support Buddhists in their practice and have an open dialog about Buddhism. Certain artists and musicians are welcome but companies or someone trying to sell something commercially are not. If you get email from this page trying to sell you something then I have been hacked. I don't use Zen to sell things. Thank you! Your help in this matter is appreciated.

In deep bow and gassho,
~ Michael
