A historical drama on Shinsengumi, a group of young swordsmen who fought to protect the traditional Tokugawa Shogunate system in the 1860s.

James Stuart, King James VI of Scotland; I of England and Ireland
He is the Son of Mary Stuart and the Father of King Charles I of England. He became the first Stuart King ever to inherit both the Scottish and English thrones. Ironically, both his mother and son were beheaded.
Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots
The last Queen of Scots in 16th century who was known to be exquisitely beautiful and well-versed in arts in general. Though her life was filled with much tragedies and chaos and she might have made mistakes during the most deciding moments, her pride and courage at the end makes her one of the most inspiring figures of all time.
James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell
A controversial Scot with an excellent military career. He is also known as Mary Stuart's third husband. Many mysteries still surround him today. Had he not left Scotland...then the history might have changed.
Prince Charles Edward Stuart
The leader of the Jacobites in 18th century and the last Prince of the Stuart Dynasty who could have been King Charles III.
Toshizo Hijikata
Along with his famous colleagues, Isami Kondo and Souji Okita, he is considered as a hero during the Boshin War that started in 1868. He believed in protecting the Tokugawas, fought for their cause and died in combat at 34. His courageous efforts till the end still inspires many people. The picture above was taken right before his death in 1869.
