"NEUTER & SPAY, IT'S THE ONLY WAY!"
February 2008: The City of Los Angeles has passed an ordinance requiring most cats and dogs to be sterilized by the age of 4 MONTHS.
The exceptions to this law will
NOT apply to most pet owners.
A Different Point of View
I'm being taken somewhere but I don't know where.
It's dark inside this box.
I hear a door and know we're in some kind of building.
I hear dogs barking and cats crying. It's very hot.
Someone is opening the box.
It's the girl that found me in the street and brought me here.
I used to have a home. I felt loved there.
Then something happened.
They opened the door and put me outside.
Then they closed the door.
I couldn't get back in. I don't understand.
The girl is crying now. She picks me up and holds me. It feels good.
I'm placed in a cage.
It's not that small, but I don't like it.
The girl leaves me here.
I look around and see other cats, just like me, in cages.
What is this place?
Where is my family and why wouldn't they let me back inside?
Another cat looks at me. He's very sad.
I don't think he was ever loved.
Maybe it's better that way.
I've been here for hours. People walk past me and they coo and sigh,
but they leave too. I think I know what's happening.
This is where we're put when no one else wants us.
Why did my family take me in the first place?
Underneath me is a new mother nursing three kittens, or are there four?
Why are they here? The kittens are barely a week old.
The girl who held me comes back and opens my cage.
She holds me again, and again, it feels good.
She puts me back and gives me a blanket and some food.
There is a tear in her eye. She's sad.
She wants to help, but there isn't much she can do.
It's dark now. Someone comes in and takes an older cat from his cage.
From somewhere in the building, I here him crying. He doesn't come back.
I've been here three days now. Everyday, they bring in more cats.
Where did they all come from? I'm scared.
The mother only has two kittens now. Two of them are dead.
The dogs keep barking, but I can't see them. People keep walking past.
Some of them stop and stare at me. Once, I was held. But I'm still in this cage.
I feel lonely and frightened.
More cats are taken away and they never come back.
I hear them cry, and then it's silent.
I don't understand. Why don't people do something?
They have the power to stop this.
But they don't. Don't I count?
Doesn't my life matter?
It's dark again.
Someone comes to me and takes me from my cage.
I'm placed on a cold metal table. There is a girl with me.
She's holding a needle. And she's crying.
I guess it's my turn now.
I won't be coming back.

(Galvin 2001-2001)
I saw Galvin's face early one morning on my work computer, I saw the terror and loneliness in his eyes, I wanted to save him from his impending death. He deserved to have a chance at life and I was going to give it to him. I waited for my boss to leave for lunch, finally, my opportunity to make the call, I was so excited, I was going to save his life. The shelter worker said, "Hold on, let me check his Impound number status", and put me on hold. He came back and said, "I am so sorry, they killed him an hour ago". I felt a cold chill go from my head to my toes, he was dead, but I was going to save him, and he was dead. I started sobbing and said "Thank you for letting me know" and hung up. If I had only called when I first saw his face, he would be alive today. It haunts me to this day, if I had only called sooner. I let him down, just like the people who took him to the shelter. I will never forget Galvin. I cry every time I see his picture. We never knew each other, but I only wish he knew that he did die with someone caring, someone wanting to give him a chance at life. Please adopt a shelter cat. Do not forget about them.
Do it for Galvin.

I'd like to meet:
Animal lovers and rescuers!
My Actual HEROES:
*People that treat their cats and dogs as family and not disposable as so many do.
*Rescuers who fight the fight for the little ones who cannot defend and speak for themselves.
NOTE: Make your pet decisions for the benefit of the pet. Not for the human. Your pet counts on you to do the right thing for it. Remember, pets love us unconditionally. They deserve the same from us!!!
Why Spay or Neuter?
If you think that just having one or two litters won't hurt anybody, this fact should change your mind: According to the Humane Society of the United States, 10,000 human babies are born in the U.S. on any given day. On that same day, however, 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. Match those two statistics up, and you'll see that there will never be enough homes for all the animals born in this country unless we all take responsibility for spaying and neutering our pets. Change begins with YOU! Spay or neuter your pet!
Spayed/Neutered Pets Live Longer,
Healthier and Happier Lives
Spaying your female pet greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer and completely eliminates the threat of uterine and ovarian cancer.
Neutering your male pet prevents testicular cancer and prostate problems, and helps him avoid serious health problems like hernias and perianal tumors.
Male dogs neutered at a young age are far less likely to develop dominance or aggression-related behavior problems, including possession and food guarding, territory marking (lifting his leg on everything in sight), aggression toward other dogs, and "humping" inappropriate objects.
Please note that these are the main reasons people give up their dogs
Neutering your male pet relieves him of the constant urge to go out in search of a female in heat. Ridding him of his urge to roam could very well save his life, and save you from a terrible broken heart.
Spaying your female dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle and the mess that goes with it. Also, females in heat often cry and howl incessantly, develop nervous behavior, and attract every unaltered male in the neighborhood to your yard!
More information
Altered animals are generally more docile and easier to train
In the span of SEVEN years, an unspayed cat and her offspring can produce 370,000 kittens!
In the span of SIX years, an unspayed dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies

WHY I HAVE THIS SITE
I have received comments about what I have been putting on this site lately. What I have been putting on this site is what I feel is needed to be said and seen. What I have put on this site lately I feel needs to be addressed. It isn't all about cute and furry animals who get rescued and live happily forever after. It is about the cold hard facts of the cat and dog over population problem. It is about all of the animals not being spayed and neutered and being able to have litter after litter who ultimately end up dying on the streets or end up dying in the shelters. Most animals that go into the shelter never come out alive. Rescue most of the time, SUCKS!!!!
It is hard, it is the hardest and most emotional thing I have ever done in my life.
I get numerous calls and emails every single day, same story different animal, I can't save them all and God knows I try, but I can't. It is hard to turn animals away and know they will die, but because of lack of funds and volunteers I just can't do it. I do what I can. I have been made fun of, called the crazy cat lady, treated like I an a leper from people because I have chosen to rescue animals and do something meaningful in my life. It hurts, it really does, but then I realize that the people making comments about me are people that don't really know me, care about animals or are worth being in my life. I know that when I have a kitten curled up on my pillow next to my head purring and snuggling and giving me unconditional love, knowing that if I hadn't pulled that kitten from the shelter when it was scheduled to be killed, that is when it validates to me, what I do is not crazy at all.
Yeah, I don't live a conventional life, it can't be when you do rescue, but I wouldn't change one thing, okay maybe one thing, having an unlmited bank account for Precious Paws so I could save more lives, that would be it.
I will tell you one thing, it is the one thing in my life I have stayed with, I have fought for and will continue to fight for.
I want to be able to speak for the homeless cats and dogs, I want to be able to make a difference,
I want people to come to this site and see the happy endings but also to see the reality of the sad endings, unfortunately there are more sad endings than happy and that just breaks my heart.
It is all not hearts and flowers, it is ugly out there and each one of us can make a difference and save lifes. I know that so many of you come to this site and give us pats on the back and tell us how wonderful we are for doing what we do, what angels we are, so forth, and it does keep me going. But you too can make a difference to. It starts with one animal at a time. Just be aware of what is going on in your own backyard. Each one of us can be rescue angels. You can do some much and if you can't do it yourself, donate to you local rescue organization to give them the funds to save lives.
We groups are a dime a dozen, we all have the same goal. We want to stop pet overpopulation and save lives. So, even though I want this site to be a place that you want to come to and be happy, I also know it is my responsibility to make you aware of the cold and cruel world out there for those homeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.
If that is offensive to you then maybe your reason for coming to this page is for the wrong reason. I will continue to post what is on my heart and what I feel people need to know.
