Tune in to CBC Radio 2 on Canada Live Monday March 31 at 8 pm to hear Art of Time Ensemble’s The Songbook – a concert of Canadian songs in new arrangements by some of Canada’s foremost arrangers and composers, sung by Sarah Slean with the Art of Time Ensemble. Sarah sings Kathryn Rose’s song "I Don’t Need More." http://www.cbc.ca/radio2/
Before we get to her Bio, how about a quick survey... KR Wants To Know:
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT MARRYING YOURSELF!?
We added the song "I Married Myself" from KR’s second solo CD "MY LITTLE FLAME" here on MySpace. Kathryn wrote this song long before Carrie Bradhaw said she was going to marry herself to register for the gift of Manolo Blahniks on Sex & The City.
Can you relate to the idea in this song?
Have you actually had the ceremony?
Would this song encourage you to marry yourself, and would you play it when you walk down the aisle?
Please leave KR a message here at MySpace about "I Married Myself", and tell your friends!
KATHRYN ROSE BIO:
Kathryn Rose leads many lives. Affectionately known as “KR†to fans and friends, this busy singer/songwriter, recording artist, session vocalist, published writer and mother of a toddler daughter is currently working on her 4th solo CD with longtime producer/collaborator Thomas Ryder Payne, due out in 2008.
Early demos and mixes from her next album will continue to be posted here at her myspace profile.
After two albums in the early 90’s with previous band Wind May Do Damage, her solo debut Every Lurid Detail (1997) was recorded in Vancouver with most of Sarah McLachlan’s band and other west coast luminaries. In 2001 she put out My Little Flame, which was re-released in 2003 as an Enhanced CD featuring Ron Sexsmith on the closing track and nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the 2003 Canadian Indie Awards. From 2005’s Kathryn Rose, the song "One Person" made the International Songwriting Competition semi-finals and the video for that song charted for 23 straight weeks on Bravo Television’s Top 30 chart.
As one of Canada’s top go-to singers with a mile-long list of guest album and live appearances, Kathryn is well known among her peers. Scan the liner notes of your CD collection - chances are good you’ll see her name crop up more than a few times (she’s sung well over 60 albums at last count.) List available at www.kathrynrose.com - Listen & Look page, Selected Credits.
Kathryn spent all of 2004 as Sarah McLachlan’s backup singer for the Afterglow world tour throughout Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe, appearing on the Afterglow Live concert DVD and CD, the Grammys, the Junos, the Tonight Show w/Jay Leno, Live w/Regis & Kelly, Last Call w/Carson Daly, Late Night w/Conan O’Brien and Good Morning America. The entertaining and popular Blog that Kathryn began on that tour is still going today at www.kathrynrose.com .
These days Kathryn is playing her own concerts, as well as appearances with a touring symphony orchestra pop concert series, a live union songs project playing major events for the United Steelworkers and more, and she also appears semi-regularly for triple-bills and trio performances with fellow artists Melanie Doane and Emilie-Claire Barlow.
The cerebral, sexy/sad/funny brilliance of her artful brand of cinematic pop might be something of a state secret beyond the ranks of her select but loyal fans, but that’s okay. Kathryn Rose doesn’t give up easy, as reflected in the motto of the indie label she founded in 1990, Footlodgedindoor Music: “You can’t kick me out, my foot’s lodged in the doorâ€.
Kathryn’s supple voice is an emotive, elastic instrument. As a songwriter she is considered a keen social diarist with a reputation for penning darkly atmospheric songs, her wicked sense of humour always at the ready.
“The dark stuff is spooky, the hopeful stuff inspiring and that voice is always worth hearing." (Eye Weekly)
