The Ringlordsâ„¢ are a kind of fraternal order / literary society . . . Said society can trace its roots a long, looong way back...the present incarnation of the organization dates all the way back to the 1920's...which alone certainly makes it pretty Ancient & August . . . There's plenty more about the Order over at www.Ringlords.com . . . That site is almost always in a state of constant construction. . . Nonetheless, it can be very entertaining at times. . . Folks seem to find it fun & rewarding. . .
Certainly, each and every one of you, our on-line Friends, either again or for the first time, as the case may be. . . Hey, check out the ever-growing number of dots. . .Of course, there’s any number of deceased historical and literary figures on our list as well, but there’s plenty of time for them at some point in the very very distant future. . . . We're fairly certain they won’t mind waiting. . .Besides, we just can't seem to get them to appear on the trick map!. .
We have a broad & constantly shifting spectrum of stuff that we listen to and what fits our moods can change minute to minute. Broad categories would include Alternative, Americana, Blues, Celtic, Classical, Electronic, Folk, Improvisation, Medieval, Psytrance & Rock in all it’s forms. Keeping in mind that what we’ve listed herein represents only the barest tip of the proverbial iceberg, our all time favorite musicians might include Rev. Gary Davis, Hovhaness, James Brown, Segovia, the Doors, Edvard Grieg, Beaver & Krause, Gershwin, Steeleye Span, the two Alices ( Coltrane & Cooper), The Gregorianischer Choral, Max Neuhaus and Funkadelic, And of course, every one of the bands and individual musicians that we are privileged to have as our Friends will reward the discerning listener. We confess we harbor a fondness for the phenom now known as Wizard Rock. Originally born out of the massive popularity of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter saga, in the last couple of years, the music scene has exploded with literally hundreds of bands who draw their names, lyrics and inspiration not only from the Hogwarts universe, but other literary worlds as well. The Twilight series of Stephenie Meyers has a growing musical following, for example. It's wildly popular, growing exponentially and best of all, great fun. Many years ago, when we were first discovering the writings of H. P. Lovecraft, a band of the same name released their first recording on the Dunwich label. Their lyrics leapt straight from the pages we were reading at the time. So we are delighted that the process is being revisited today.Special mention must therefore be made of The Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets, whose inspiration likewise derives from H. P. Lovecraft. Wizard rock of a far more sinister bent perhaps, but wizard rock nonetheless. And wizard rock that carries the torch of the original Lovecraftian tradition. ...And there are, of course, a wide variety of bands that hail from Middle Earth. ...So when is Myspace gonna recognize Wrock as a genre??? ...If you would like to see this happen, there's this petition floating around out there that you can sign...The link is just below, but we somehow can't get the button image to work, so you'll probably have to copy & paste...http://www.petitiononline.com/wizrock/petition.html
Historical Epics like: "Becket" & "Henry V" . . . Science Fiction like: "Forbidden Planet" . . . Fantasy like: "Legend" & " Dragonslayer". . . Supernatural Horror like: "The Haunting"
We don't watch a lot of TV... it tends to cut into our reading time...but when we do, it tends to be stuff like Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Outer Limits, One Step Beyond & local TV institution Svengoolie.... Ya gotta see Svengoolie. . .!!
It's true, we have our very own library! This is where the Ringlords™ really come in. . . our literary interests lay primarily in the fields of Mythology, Legend, Folklore, Superstition, Magic and the Supernatural. Any author touching upon these subjects will garner our attentions. . . Of course, accounts of travel into the Realms Beyond The Waking Worlds are highly favored. . . The the classics in the genres of High Fantasy and the Quest are popular. . . and we’ve always enjoyed a good comic book.
Dr. Strange, The Mighty Thor, Green Lantern, Doctor Doom, Galacticus. . . .Huh?. . . Wazzat you say? . . . not SUPER heroes?? . .so what ARE we looking for here, cultural icons?, demigods?, what? . . .Just makes it more complicated than it needs to be, doesn’t it ? . . .Well, we took a poll... The top five this month were...
Annie Oakley, for her sure aim; Sir Edmund Hillary for his sheer benevolence; Vincent Price, for his portrayals of sheer malevolence; Bucky Fuller, for his sheer genius: and The Dalai Lama who doesn't just p0ray for peace, but works 24/7 for it.And there's one more....Pamela Coleman Smith, aka Pixie. Pamela was the artist who painted the portraits that today grace the 78 cards of the Rider-Waite tarot deck. She died penniless, her name is now all but forgotten, yet her work is the most reproduced art in the history of civilization.Fame is fleeting, Friends!
