Fundraising With Fernthai Volunteer Foundation
Fernthai Volunteer Foundation in association with Myspace, a place for friends, and Chipin, the internets premier secure charity donation service, proudlypresent our "Give A Gift Of Hope" campaign.
In 2008, in our 3rd year of voluntary work in the community, we are looking to drive our Foundation into a new era by applying for full government registration- a complicated yet extremely worthwhile venture. We already have a board of 7 directors in place, a chairman, a secretary and the full backing of thedistrict governor, Nai Gamnan Buatong Sangkhaet. In order for us to reach our goal we need to raise 200,000 Thai Baht, around $5000 (although $2500 of thiscan and will be declared in assets). Once registered we are guaranteed to be able to continue the vital work we are doing for numerous years to come.Countless numbers of people are living in abstract poverty in North Eastern Thailand, without a voice & without much of a hope of change. Fernthai VolunteerFoundation is working hard to be that voice and bring about that change but we need your help. If you'd consider making a donation or hosting our widget we'dbe delighted for your help. Rest assured internet transactions are as safe and secure as can possibly be.
Many, many thanks for all of your goodwill - Kind Regards, all at Fernthai Volunteer Foundation.

About Fernthai Volunteer Foundation
..
If you're looking for a life changing event you've come to the right place! We are a new organisation working in the field of volunteering within one of the poorest and most needy regions in the beautiful country of Thailand.Although we are a new organisation we bring to you a wealth of experience in the world of volunteering. In fact, the organisation was formed by a group offormer volunteers to bridge the gap and confront all of the problems associated with volunteering in a foreign country. We are confident our experience willenable us to not only provide you, the volunteer, a smooth, reliable and full-filling experience, but more importantly, it will stand us in great stead whenit comes to actually achieving our goal - to help those who need us most. So what exactly will you be doing? Well the simple answer to that is, it depends onyou! Fernthai Volunteer Foundation will be based in the village of Baan Nakhor even when you, the volunteer, are not there. This will enable us to constantlyseek out project opportunities on a continual basis keeping us right up to date with the village needs. We won't force you to do any project you don't wantto do. On the contrary, we encourage you to inform us of the area you want to volunteer in and we will strive to find an ideal opportunity tailored to youand the village alike. That's not to say many opportunities don't already exist to be involved with - far from it. One of the primary areas we are involvedin is with the teaching of English within the village schools. We have links to both primary and secondary schools and are welcome to volunteer in either.English teaching doesn't stop there either. You'll be amazed by the zest of the Thai's to learn English and it doesn't just stop with the children. You'lloften have adults popping around the house for informal lessons, and believe it or not we even teach in the local temple to a group of very enthusiasticmonks! If you've never taught before don't worry too much either as we'll all be on hand for guidance and ideas regarding lessons and methods. Pleaseremember people you help are genuinely grateful for that help so the focus shifts from being a high pressured environment into a much more relaxed andenjoyable scenario for all involved. Projects don't just stop with teaching either. Baan Nakhor is a rural village that is slowly developing. Frequently anew building or development takes place and Fernthai Volunteer Foundation are often welcome to lend a helping hand. Obviously this depends on what ishappening in the village at the time but if an opportunity exists we'll find it and do our best to be a part of it. On occasions we will attempt to fund orjointly fund ventures directly. This can range from fixing village bridges and fences for which local government funding isn't available through to directpersonal requests. The relationship we have with the village headman (Gamnan) allows the locals to approach him or us directly and simply ask for direct helpon any project they may have. At Fernthai Volunteer Foundation we are also keen to work on environmental projects. Often working with the local forestcommission we have previously been involved with tree planting projects and also education on the problems associated with illegal deforestation in thesearch of useable land. There is also a need to tackle local education on problems associated with pollution. Not only is education needed but also projectsto tackle pollution directly. We also work with the local UNDP (United Nations) office giving free village and community talks on the dangers and risksassociated with HIV/AIDS, promoting healthy sexual awareness and responsibility
Some of you may wonder why some of our emphasis is on teaching English in these remote villages. Well its a sad fact than about 99% of these children willleave their villages and head off to Bangkok in search of work and money to send home to support their families. Unfortunately, once there, many are luredinto prostitution and poorly paid jobs with long and hard working conditions, mainly as a result of their sub-standard education. With Bangkok being fuelledby tourism it is hoped that our educational efforts will stand these poor kids in better stead when it comes to finding work and so elliviate the need to belured into these kind of working practices.
