About Me

Soi Dog Foundation is a not-for-profit, legally registered charitable organization, based in Phuket, Thailand, with the aim to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats and to better the lives and living conditions of the street and stray dogs and feral cats in Thailand, currently focused on the island of Phuket. To treat & improve the lives of the remaining animals, it operates a shelter & rehoming center for abandoned & abused dogs. Every baht raised by SDF goes directly to helping the animals. All administration costs are met by the volunteers themselves. To continue its work serving the community it needs to raise new funds."Soi Dog" means street dog.
There are about 50 temples on the island of Phuket, most have an average of about 30 dogs, it is estimated that Soi Dog look after about 600 dogs in temples alone, not counting other street dogs, and the 400+ dogs at the Shelter. To make a donation or sponsor a dog or cat please visit www.soidog.org - they need all the help they can get!
SDF treats sick & injured animals who would otherwise not receive veterinary treatment, preventing suffering & spread of disease. It also responds to emergency calls from the general public. It can only do this through donations. SDF receives no financial support from the government.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Everybody who wants to make a difference in the life of a Soi (street) dog or cat
Soi Dog Foundation has been recognised all over the world & received several awards including one from the Humane Society International. It is supported in its work by the World Society for Protection of Animals of which it is a member society. It is a registered Thai Foundation & the current president is Dr Prasit Koeysiripong. To continue to solve the problem of stray animals on Phuket it needs more funds to complete its work. Please support their work as SDF is drastically reducing the number of animals on streets & beaches.
.. .. .... ....

FEEDING PROGRAM Created in memory of the late Leone Cosens who died going to the aid of others in the tsunami & who has previously cared for hundreds of animals in the south of the island. SDF provides nearly 2000 kgs of food per week to volunteers who feed animals at temples & other locations. This has the benefit to the island that the dogs do not leave these locations to go onto the streets in search of food.

ABOUT SDF - There are no government or charitable agencies to protect animals from abuse, only a few local animal lovers who house large numbers of them, using their own funds & manpower. Laws governing responsible animal ownership or animal abuse don't exist. There are no humane shelters. Culling by strychnine poisoning is a shocking reality. Religious beliefs prohibit euthanasia, even in desperate cases. Dogs & cats are being taken from streets & other rural areas to fill the growing demand for dog meat & cat fur where the method of slaughter is slow & inhumane.

HOW TO ADOPT A RESCUED SOI DOG OR CAT IF LIVING IN THAILAND
Whether you are in Phuket and are looking for a pet, or you have decided to take a dog or cat to a home in another country, they can help.Soi Dog Foundation's aim is to find loving permanent homes for some of the thousands of dogs that are born and living on the streets of Phuket. It must be remembered that all the dogs in the centre have arrived because they have either been mis-treated or been abandoned. Some have been with them for several months and it will take a little while for them to get used to the idea that they are not in competition for love and fuss. They may take a few days to get used to a collar and lead. They may be wary of yet another change in their life, but SDF are confident that they will turn into loving and loyal pets, who will always be grateful that you have given them another chance to have a happy and cared for life.

HOW TO ADOPT A RESCUED SOI DOG OR CAT IF LIVING IN USA OR EUROPE
SDF can arrange shipping of dogs and cats all over the world. Prospective adopters should realise however that it is an expensive and depending on the country, time consuming exercise. North America is fairly straightforward, though the flights are expensive.Europe takes a minimum of 4 months to fulfil the requirements, the UK longer.Expect to pay a minimum of 25,000 THB to adopt a dog!SDF charge nothing for all the running around, but adopters must pay all the expenses. They have a wonderful lady in France who will care for dogs there whilst they fulfil UK pet passport regulations:www.dogsathome.org have kindly offered free fostering in France for the six month quarantine period for any dogs adopted to the UK.Another generous donor has offered to pay for any flights for dogs from Thailand to France.
