About Me

Loznica is a town and municipality located in the Machva District of Serbia. It lies at Drina river, at 44.53° North, 19.22° East. Its name stems from the word "loza" - (Serbian word for vine). In 2002 the town had total population of 59,863, while the municipality had a population of 86,413. Old name of this town is Ad Drinum. Some 9km southeast of Loznica, there's a lovely old village called Trshic. This is where 1 of the greatest people of Serbian culture, Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic was born on 8 November 1787. Visit the ethno park with Vuk's memorial house and other buildings nearby. Vuk's house as it is today was built in 1933 on the place where the old house once stood. There are 2 rooms, a kitchen, with different 19th-century-wooden dishes, and a bedroom, with a bed, desk, family icon and Vuk's portrait done by Pavel Ðurkovic in 1816. Here you can also see a cross that Vuk's neighbours used to mark the foundations of Vuk's old house. All the other buildings had different purpose. 1 consisted of a room where Vuk's parents used to sleep (vajat). You can still see a bed with a craddle next to it. Then there was a building where they made cheese and another 1 where they kept corn to dry.Tronosha convent is situated a couple of kilometres from Trshic. It was a monastery 1st where Vuk Karadzic got his basic education. You can also visit his memorial museum in a building next to the church. The older church was renewed in 1599.Tekerish is a village on the eastern slopes of Mt. Cer (Tser). This is where famous Cer battle took place in August 1914. It was a Serbian victory. On 28 June 1928, a 10.5m high monument was erected here. You can also visit the museum nearby and find out more about the battle. In front of the museum there are busts of 4 great Serbian commanders from the WWI.In north-west of Serbia in area named Radjevina, there is a place called Bela Crkva (White Church). It is located 12 km. from east of Krupanj, on the bank of the small river also called Bela Crkva, which is a tributary of a larger Likodra.Bela Crkva is 8 km from the main road Loznica to Valjevo, and from Loznica 34 km.For the first time in 1422 year Bela Crkva was mention in historical documents in Dubrovnik.By traditional story's passed on orally from generation to generation that the church in Dobri Potok near Krupanj was build by one of son's of Nemanja, and the church in Bela Crkva was build by another son of Nemanja. In another version of this story during the Turkish occupation of this part of Serbia, the Turks looking from Sokol to Radjevina fields could only see one building - which was a church made of wood and painted white.
