The Peaceful Critic is the literary home of Indianapolis based writer/activist/minister and film critic Richard Propes, an award-winning child rights advocate and internationally recognized peace activist with a growing following of readers who appreciate Propes' unique ability to blend his humanitarian heart with an insightful critique on movies, past and present.
A longtime freelance film critic for a variety of publications, Propes is the co-founder of IndependentCritics.com and the founder and Executive Director for the Tenderness Network, an international community of artists & activists dedicated to ending violence in the lives of children.
Propes has won numerous awards for his child advocacy, most notably the highest awards for service in Indiana and Kentucky, "Sagamore of the Wabash" and "Order of Kentucky Colonels" along with the Donna J. Stone Award, Prevent Child Abuse America's highest award nationally for volunteer service in the area of child abuse prevention. Along with his film criticism, Propes is the author of two books, "Imaginary Crimes" and "The Secret Heart" along with four plays. Richard is a widely sought speaker on topics ranging from his own life-affirming story to violence prevention to film criticism, and has traveled over 3,000 miles in his wheelchair raising awareness and funds on behalf of family violence prevention programs worldwide. The Tenderness Network is the only all-volunteer program in the world to have donated funds to organizations in every civilized nation in the world.
Currently, Richard also serves as a Service Coordinator for the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities for the State of Indiana and is a licensed Brethren minister while attending Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, Indiana. Richard is single and a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Peaceful Critic encourages the participation of guest critics and columnists to supplement Richard's own writings. Please submit your review or column idea to The Peaceful Critic. The Peaceful Critic is especially interested in publishing critics and columns covering local, regional and national film festivals. The Peaceful Critic also welcomes the opportunity to work with studios, large and small, in publishing film related features, interviews, previews and contests.
At this time, please note that writers who choose to publish their work on The Peaceful Critic do so voluntarily. The Peaceful Critic, as part of our core values, donates 50% of all proceeds from sponsorships, advertising, donations and honorariums to organizations worldwide working to end violence in the lives of children.
Beginning October 1, 2007 The Peaceful Critic will donate $1.00 for each review published on this website. Recipient organizations include:

New Community Project
Indianapolis International Film Festival
RAINN
National Committee to Protect Children
Watch this space, as well, as beginning in October we'll begin gathering monthly for "The Spirit of Cinema," a monthly gathering to view a film and then meet at a local coffeehouse following the film to discuss it!

The Peaceful Critic wants to review your film. There are many film sites out there that shy away from short films, independent films and student films. Heck, they shy away from anything not produced by a major studio.
The Peaceful Critic reviews all film submissions. Period. One of the central missions of The Peaceful Critic is to support ALL filmmakers by providing honest critical evaluations of your film, either on The Peaceful Critic or on IndependentCritics.com.
