About Me
A 35 year-old film critic and professional poker player, I was born in England, but have lived in various parts of the United States since 1987.
I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1997 with a degree in English, with a strong emphasis in Film, Poetry & Fiction Writing.
I currently live in a suitcase, traveling the world as a full time Poker-Pro. I am also a film critic & web designer of IndependentCritics.com and TCCandler.com.
As a film critic, the most important qualities a film can possess are: Originality, Focus, Passion, Heart, Intelligence & Wit... all framed by magnificent acting, sure- handed directing, gorgeous cinematography & a beautiful score or soundtrack. I am a big fan of French and Italian films, and I much prefer the independent film scene to the mind-numbing repetition of most Hollywood blockbusters. I prefer to believe that films should be more than just mere entertainment. Nothing but pure entertainment tends to bore the hell out of me... which seems to be paradoxical. To merit a recommendation, I have to care.. I have to be moved... I have to know why a film exists!
My poker career began in 1998. Bearing one of the more bizarre nicknames in the game, "THE LLAMA", I have earned almost $250,000 in major tournaments around the world and on the internet, including the World Series of Poker and the L.A. Poker Classic. My main source of income is in cash games. Having dominated Canterbury Park's 15-30 and 30-60 games in 2000 and 2001, I moved to Los Angeles, where I proceeded to blow my entire bankroll. I broke the cardinal rule of bankroll management -- Never play above your limit!!! Luckily, I've recovered well and recently competed at the 2007 World Series of Poker and some World Poker Tour events. "THE LLAMA" is on the rise.
I am also a huge sports fanatic. I love playing and watching virtually every sport you care to name.
In addition, I run the following movie review website...

How lovely that everyone, great and small, can make their contribution toward introducing justice straightaway... And you can always, always give something, even if it is only kindness!" - Anne Frank

"A long, long time ago... there was a magic rose that made whoever plucked it immortal. But no one would dare go near it because its thorns were full of mortal poison. So, amongst the men, tales of pain and death were told in hushed voices. But there was no talk of eternal life... because men fear pain more than they want immortality. So, every day, the rose wilted, unable to bequeath its gift to anyone. Alone and forgotten at the top of that mountain. Forgotten until the end of time."- Ivana Baquero as Ofelia in "Pan's Labyrinth"
"I apologize to you if I don't seem real eager to jump into a forced awkward intimate situation that people like to call dating. I don't like the feeling. You're sitting there, you're wondering do I have food on my face, am I eating, am I talking too much, are they talking enough, am I interested I'm not really interested, should I play like I'm interested but I'm not that interested but I think she might be interested but do I want to be interested but now she's not interested? So all of the sudden I'm getting, I'm starting to get interested... And when am I supposed to kiss her? Do I have to wait for the door cause then it's awkward, it's like well goodnight. Do you do like that ass-out hug? Where you like, you hug each other like this and your ass sticks out cause you're trying not to get too close or do you just go right in and kiss them on the lips or don't kiss them at all? It's very difficult trying to read the situation. And all the while you're just really wondering are we gonna get hopped up enough to make some bad decisions? Perhaps play a little game called "just the tip". Just for a second, just to see how it feels. Or, ouch, ouch you're on my hair." - Vince Vaughn in "Wedding Crashers"

You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday. " - Kevin Spacey in "American Beauty"
