Movie Night selection of the Week:
Heist (2001)
Focused around a group of professional thieves, Joe Moore (Gene Hackman), Bobby Blane (Delroy Lindo), Don Pincus (Ricky Jay), and Joe’s wife Fran (Rebecca Pidgeon) being pressed to pull, you guessed it, one last job. What saves this potentially paint by numbers plot from mediocrity is the fantastic trademark Mamet dialogue and his love for the characters. Not a cookie cutter CGI and bloodshed fare but rather, a character study; a slow burn, set within a confidence game that give you twist after twist after twist and will leave you guessing until the final frame.
So says the girlfriend: "I didn't love it. But I didn't hate it either."

My Interests

FAQ:

Q: What is The Rub?
A: The Rub is a place where I post movie reviews and news for myself and some friends that requested it. I hope to gain a few new friends along the way who like to discuss and debate movies. My intended vision for The Rub is that it will one day evolve into its own website.

Q: Who runs The Rub?
A: Just a regular guy who loves movies and loves to write. My friends are always calling me to ask my opinions on movies, so the notion of combining it all just made too much sense.

Q: What's with the name, 'The Rub'?
A: A fairly obscure reference to the excellent opening scene in Swingers. Mike and Rob are having a conversation about how Mike should handle himself during the aftermath of a broken relationship. Rob explains what to do, and not do, during this time. Mike resists the ideas at first but once he finally gets it he has an epiphany and says simply, "There's the rub", to which Rob replys also, "There's the rub."

Q: What's the 'Movie Night selection of the week'?
A: I got tired of my girlfriend saying “I haven’t seen that one”, so Wednesday nights at my house are movie night. We'll see other movies, but at the very least EVERY Wednesday she takes a vested interest in my ravenous passion for movies, picks something she hasn’t seen or something that looks good to her (I have some veto power; not much...), and we watch it. I’ll update with a quick review and add her two cents at the end.

Overall, that's pretty much what you can expect here. I'll tell you what I think about movies. You can agree or disagree, but I'll give you the straight poop and call it how I see it. Once you finally get it you'll say to yourself simply - "There’s The Rub"

If you like what you see, add me and subscribe to my blog (where I'll post new reviews) then check back often to get updates.

Cheers,
