Akira Tanidono

Trumpet / Flugelhorn Player

About Me

Akira Tanidono was born in Kyoto, Japan in 1983. He began his musical studies at very early age. His elder sister was practicing piano at home, and Akira said, "Mom, I wanna play the piano, too." so he began to take piano lessons. At that time he was five yaers old.
He picked up the trumpet in junior high school and flourished in school band playing marches, classical music, and orchestra-arranged pop until he graduated from high school. He also actively performed as a member of ska band during his school days. When He was a senior in high school, he won a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he moved to United States after finishing high school, at the age of 19. At Berklee, he studied jazz composition and performance. He recieved Clark Terry Award from the school in 2005.
In January 2006, he had a Kerea tour as a band member of a jazz guitarist, Kang Woong, and made a great coup. Currently he is performing in New York and New England area.
He studied the trumpet with Tiger Okoshi, Hal Crook, John Swana, Satoshi Miyamura and Yuji Noma.
